the trap in which JKR has placed herself is that she cannot simply say “Dolly was a good person” because Dolly said out loud that she loved trans people, and that is wholly incompatible with goodness in JKR’s moral calculus. but she ALSO can’t just say “Dolly was wrong,” because she is a coward

Yes, Rowling must know that, while I'm sure Dolly would have been civil to her if they met, she completely disagreed with Rowling's attitudes. And it's Dolly who is receiving pretty much unanimous adulation.

JKR had her chance at a future where she would be remembered forever for getting kids to fall in love with reading, and instead she will be remembered as a stochastic terrorist on the wrong side of one of 21st century history’s foremost civil rights battles, and I do think that’s somewhat sinking in

We’re not in the habit of recognizing celebrity deaths here at 925. That said, Dolly Parton is a national treasure and some folks here joke that Dolly is our Locals patron saint. After all her song “9 to 5” is our anthem. Today we remember all the love and kindness Dolly brought the world.

Tribute-style portrait of a Dolly Parton performing in a ruffled light purple blouse, arm raised and singing into a microphone, overlaid with the lyric: "You're just a step on the bossman's ladder / But you've got dreams he'll never take away."

(3/3) Dolly called and asked if there was any way to help with this tragedy. Abumrad replied she was on a vaccine research team but it was expensive and they were still seeking grants. When Dolly heard this she replied "Well I have money" and donated $1m. Abumrad's team produced the Moderna vaccine.

Plenty to reflect about re: the Arday affair, but I'm going to repeat this one thing. The playbook the right used here is effective even though it's not especially sophisticated, as it relies on the audience to do the dirty work. I've been calling it "Trojan horse propaganda", let's go with that. 1/
