NASA isn't why the US doesn't have universal healthcare, or a social safety net. The US doesn't have those things because politicians with the power to provide them choose specifically not to (with varying levels of support from voters). Enthusiasm for human spaceflight doesn't drive that choice.

I think if I'd gotten away with attempting a coup, suffered no consequences for it, then won an election four years later, got away with executing citizens in the streets and foreigners in boats, and successfully abducted a head of state, I too might think I could just bomb my way to regime change

It’s pretty simple. If America votes for Republicans, then America doesn’t deserve democracy. It’s also pretty simple that if fascism wins because of cheating, then we deserve democracy. They never won to begin with. We have a lot of assholes in this country, but not quite that many. ☯️⚖️✌️

I do not forgive. Nor forget. and if anything radicalized me on topics like free software and digital rights, then it is this story. Kid just wanted taxpayer funded researchpapers to be free and publicly available.

Democrats should never vote to fund a government that's waging war on its own citizens and firing officials *because* they insist on following court orders instead of breaking the law. Let Senate Republicans nuke the filibuster. None of this is normal and it shouldn't be treated as such.
