The thing is, England got invaded by a French force in the 11th century and those people are still basically in charge of everything. So I don’t know why we’re pretending otherwise. Although then a bit later England ended up being ruled by a Scottish king. The Auld Alliance. I’m half Welsh anyway.
This is good on the problems with the "40 years of decline" rhetoric. Parties should honour their past, but they cannot live in it. A movement that dreams of mines and shipyards, in a country that has few of either, is not a living tradition but a historical re-enactment society.
