My neighbour has just felled the 40+ year old, massively overgrown Leylandii hedge surrounding one of his properties. The piles of timber are huge - almost twice my height. They are to be torched once the risk of wildfire abates. What an obscene waste!
The fact that various people are saying Liddle was nice in private speaks to a columnist disease - people having nasty and ugly views once a week for money, with little care for the social consequences. But enjoy that £1 a word!
From their reticules? Had to look that one up. Phew!

Heard that one before, several times. Believe it when we see it.

Autumn has come early for this lovely silver birch, one of many mature trees in the garden that are already losing their leaves.

I guess we’re used to people being wise after the event, but being ignorant after the event is inexcusable. #COVID
So a whole lot of my talented Humanities colleagues are now unemployed as of today. A lot of understandable concern over Exeter. But for over two decades my Hums colleagues were in the top quartile for their research contribution to society. History top 10. Now gone with only a national whisper.

Sipping my coffee ☕️ and thinking about these marvellous Minoan cups! They look so modern it’s incredible to think they were made by Bronze Age potters some 3,800 years ago! Heraklion Archaeological Museum, Crete. 📷 by me #Archaeology
The hill I will die on: the Grauniad’s ‘The hill I will die on’ feature is fast becoming a useful directory of people you would cross the road to avoid.
If you watch anything on #Moroccans coming to #Ceuta, make it this report. CBS News have interviewed some of them & they confirm that social media posts on Facebook & Instagram told them Spain had opened its borders. They're playing with people's hopes & lives. It's awful. We must combat fake news.
There was never any local legend of Black Shuck and even the Tudor origin story of Bungay and Blythburgh was made up, but plenty of folk have not let this small detail stand in the way of making money
The only time Jesus became even remotely violent was when confronted with people exploiting religion for personal grift.
"A ‘Make Great Britain Christian Again’ event in August will see speakers aligned to Stephen Yaxley-Lennon ([stage name] Tommy Robinson) and other far-right figures come together in an attempt to boost MAGA-style ‘Christian Nationalism’ on this side of the Atlantic." #R4Today
Surprised they didn’t just deduct points from Everton instead.
Well, the final whistle on Chelsea FC's financial cheating under Abramovich seems to have blown. The Guardian and our reporting partners practically put it on a plate for the FA and Premier League. They blazed it over the bar. www.theguardian.com/football/202...
Oh, joy! The second brood of swallows have just fledged from the barn, and are swooping around the roof, chattering to each other. Hard to count, but as a group (parents, fledgelings, and presumably some of the first brood) there must be at least 10 of them. Utterly delightful 🥰
Cooler today, but still no rain in this parched, fire-ravaged corner of NE Suffolk. Autumn has come early - many of the 100+ trees we’ve planted over recent years are already losing their leaves. I wonder how many will survive into next year? And the farm pond that the deer drink from is almost dry.
Hmmm…
