Great news: my short Film That Never Begins is now an official selection at Tacoma Film Festival in October! This is my forst time in this festival since…2009, I think? It’s nice to be back in the festival in the city where I went to college!

I - a well-intentioned but ignorant white progressive - learned about “woke” in the context of Beyoncé’s Lemonade album, so not that long ago. It’s a Black term that’s been misappropriated by bad faith actors very recently, and the commentariat should say as much.

If a white person uses the term "woke" I realize that they are either a malicious asshole, maliciously complacent, or reflexively unthinking, and it's only a matter of time before they reveal which one it is. One good way to find out is to explain what "woke" actually means and note the reaction.

I loathe the phrase “self-deport,” because it accepts conservative framing. Just say that people are leaving the country.
