Car-blindness is real! Psychologists or sociologists should study this. Giant two-ton boxes flying all around us, piloted by people who have been rendered psychopaths, regularly injuring & killing our neighbors, and many/most people just ... don't register it. It's just background noise.

Edmonton continues to show it's possible to have newly built, ground-oriented housing for families in existing neighbourhoods at a reasonable price. You only have to make it legal and feasible. Here's a 3bed for $1,895 with a $500 lease signing bonus.

The last few hundred metres of the creek had been diverted through a culvert decades ago in preparation for a freeway that (thankfully) never got built. Those plans were abandoned …
We should’ve daylighted Mill Creek when we had the chance.

Even the people who work on Vision Zero often do not build the safest option. There are examples of explicitly unsafe options being built, even on 'Safe Mobility' projects. Even in #yeg, even after 10 years of being 'committed to' Vision Zero.
As a boy, my grandparents wouldn't dream of buying a Ford b/c Henry Ford—who was long dead by then—had been a rabid antisemite. 40 years later, I'm amazed that so many people who deplore xenophobia remain willing to buy a Tesla.
As a life-long cyclist, including as a year-round commuter, what I have noticed since the advent of protected bike lanes is the increasing number of people, including many couples, in their 50s,60s, and 70s riding bikes that I never saw before.
