Right on the money. We have a government that’s all ears for left-leaning homeowners who write outrage emails about the evils of new housing (grow the outrage tent) but missing in action when the problem calls for accountability, collaboration, honesty. edmontonjournal.com/opinion/colu...

Keith Gerein: Smith’s immigration distortions may have created a new adversary for the UCP

Watching city council meeting about ministerial direction. If I read the ministerial direction correctly, it would seem to suggest as-of-right zoning (aka "blanket") should be "balanced" (aka gotten rid of) and replaced w/ discretionary approvals. Am I wrong? If I'm not, red tape is back baby!

I guess I knew this at some level already. But, man, it gives some unflattering context for some of our #abpoli referendum questions (and general complaints by premiers in other provinces as well). That's not saying this is good or bad, just that these facts aren't well-represented in our rhetoric.

This is something I did not know! Canada has the highest Decentralization Ratio for government expenditures of all OECD countries

Column chart showing the decentralization ratio for OECD countries for 2023 in descending order from left to right. Canada has the largest ratio at over 60% and has a red bar. Denmark and Switzerland are next; all non-Canadian countries have blue bars. Costa Rica has the lowest ratio and is on the far right of the graph at under 10%

The best analysis on the nine that I've heard was from Anthony Sayers at the U of C, who described it as a "grab bag" of the grievances brewing in Danielle Smith's caucus. Once you see it, the confused, garbled, even contradictory nature of it all makes complete sense. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

ANALYSIS | Who else besides Danielle Smith is saying 'yes to the nine' in Alberta's referendum? | CBC News

Alberta's premier put immigration and constitutional questions on the ballot as easy winners. UCP officials worry she might lose some of them.

I come across this "entitlement" sentiment as a pedestrian. Nearly hit with kid in crosswalk this morn. Had words with driver. "I didn't see you!" "You should be more careful with your kid!" Drivers seem unable to accept a car's deadliness creates responsibility. www.thestar.com/opinion/star...

Alberta post Oct. 19 will somehow almost exclusively be defined by resentment and anger. I’ve offered critical thoughts of Jason Kenney’s new persona in our politics, but I fear he’s right to worry we’ll see friendships and partnerships broken in two. This will divide at the smallest scale.
