COVID Chronicles

Chronicling my journey through purgatory, graphically. Former athlete/composer/writer/woodworker. Saddled with debilitating COVID-induced metabolic dysfunction since Nov 2022. #LongCOVID #LC #MECFS #PEM #SickJokes

"Oh, I can run. I just won’t get up the next day" …or the day after that. I guess the better sentence would have been: "…who no longer can 'afford' to" But then people would be like: "Why? They broke?" Yup. We definitely broke. In 'all' the wrong places. #LongCOVID #MECFS #pwME

Day 1369 — Spotted in the wild at a Triathlon/Duathlon this weekend. 💜❤️‍🩹❤️ Next time that little voice tells you nobody cares, remember that the best of us do, deeply. And that they, too, are out there. #LongCOVID #MECFS #pwME

A T-Shirt on a female athlete reads: "Running for my Long COVID friends who no longer can".

Ladies, LADIES. The only reason there aren't studies on this actionable, 100% legitimate, undervalued cure is because of PEOPLE LIKE YOU. Scientists are AFRAID. Look at what happened to Semmelweis! tHiS iS nO diFfeReNt BRT isn't a racket, it's nothing like prayer healing. REPENT! #MECFS #Wired

What's worse, it will only reinforce the author's false premise that Long COVID "advocates" are the reason this "cure" isn't being explored. Oh, but it is. In piece after piece after piece of unsubstantiated pop-sci drivel. Dear @wired.com Cherry-picked anecdotes do not science make. #pwME

🧵OF KEY CONCERNS We've now read Alan Levinovitz's WIRED piece on Long Covid. Our concern isn't that it discusses psychological theories. Our concern is that it repeatedly conflates criticism of evidence with creating a "climate of fear". Those are not the same thing. /1

WIRED@wired.com · 2mo ago

Six years since the height of the pandemic, the scientific community remains baffled by long Covid. But there might finally be a way forward for long Covid treatment—if only you were allowed to talk about it.

Oh they are doing their job: maximize earnings.
The farcical fallacy underpinning this piece serves one purpose:

"Engagement" "The job" is what needs redefining (in politics, journalism, business). Someday, soon, society is going to realize that profit as the only driver is driving us off a cliff

@wired.com's premise is: BRT: "This cures Long COVID" Science: "Prove it" BRT: "Can't. Researchers are too afraid of the backlash" So… you're saying you've cured cancer, but because scientists are skeptical you're NOT going to organized a bullet-proof double-blind randomized control trial? 🤔🙄

WIRED has decided to hide comments pointing out that the author of the “It’s your fault for having Long COVID, you have it because you’re thinking and talking about having it instead of ignoring it” article has no qualifications to be talking about disease management.

Playing Chicken With Oblivion@oblivionchicken.bsky.social · 2mo ago

What a brilliant scientific article by a professor of religious studies with a B.A. in philosophy/religion! You can tell how much expertise the author possesses about infectious diseases by his strident anti-wokism and persecution complex. What a joke. Shameful and embarrassing for Wired & JMU.

Disagree that the evidence is mixed. I looked closely at the evidence in 2025 before shelling out the thousands it would cost for a full protocol. Trials designed, funded and performed by HBOT clinics showed improvements. Trials designed, funded and performed by third parties did not.

Scientific American: 'Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is being explored as a long COVID treatment. Here’s what the research shows' 'Some clinics are touting pressurized oxygen chambers as a treatment for long COVID, but the evidence is mixed' www.scientificamerican.com/article/hype...

The Painful Truth About Long Covid

There might finally be a way forward for long Covid treatment—if only you were allowed to talk about it.

wired.com

The upshot to BRT going mainstream (and I can't believe how absolutely everywhere it is now): We get to recycle the same posts. My only consolation is a slim one: The Wired piece on Long COVID will age about as well as climate skepticism. "Told you so" isn't the flex I thought it would be.

Day 1322—With the amount of Brain Retraining, Neurofeedback & Neuroplasticity podcasts, books & clinics being suggested to me by "concerned" friends & family, I'm happy to announce Long COVID & ME/CFS will soon no longer be a thing. Cause all these things clearly work. 😑

1) Mention hard science only to dismiss it 2) Give the grift equal—nay, more—time & narrative approval 3) Watch engagement soar Climate obstructionism, anti-sanitary, anti-trans, anti-immigrant dog whistling all follow this lucrative recipe NYTimes, Atlantic do it Now @wired.com does too

That @wired.com hit piece on Long COVID was actually a masterclass in gaslighting. Name-drop the hard science, only to dismiss it. Make it sound like all sides of this "debate" have legitimate arguments. It's the Climate Hoax all over again. "Climate skeptics are afraid of activist backlash".

#pwME

COVID Chronicles, day 1355 A cousin I haven't seen in years was in town for her son's tryouts. She had two hours to kill, sitting in the warm sun, 30 minutes away. And here I was, forced to write, once again, "Sorry, can't make it out today". Long COVID is harder than it sounds. #pwME #MECFS #PEM

A hand-written note on yellow paper is posted on a fridge with a matching yellow magnet. It reads:

You can't always get what you want
No, you can't always get what you want
I said you can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime, you'll find you get — ["what you need" is crossed out in red and replaced with:]
debilitating Post-Exertional Malaise

Next to the note, in bold black lettering, there is the caption:

No reason. No rhyme.
Welcome to Long COVID:
The disease that ruins everything
One crash at a time.
