P.121 of “The Big One”(2025), citing NIH’s 2023 list of “10 … pathogens of pandemic potential” including hantavirus (not specifically Andes hantavirus), @mtosterholm.bsky.social says it’s unlikely because “based on current studies” none of the 10 viruses spread “through airborne transmission.”

It would be good if the experience of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic had resulted in an updated procedure for communicating about outbreaks. Brief thoughts on what still happens vs. what would be better for rebuilding trust in public health. 🧵
@laurenpelley.bsky.social please note the importance of track record. Sources like Dr Van Kerkhove who participated in the "widespread failure" identified by the UK COVID Inquiry do not have any remaining credibility, which reflects badly on any story quoting them without addressing that. 🧵:
