"everyone in the middle ages believed in astrology and the stars having a direct impact on outcomes on earth" sounds like wacky superstitition to us today but i think would seem much more intuitive as a belief if you could see the sky like they got to see it.

watching WWDC against my better judgement and it's amazing that even Apple's AI bullshit boils down to "hey siri do my parenting for me" or "hey siri, i don't want to look at the texts i had with my wife and remember all the fun little interactions we have just pull this one thing out of it for me"

People love historical what if scenarios. What if JFK was never assassinated? What if the Nazis won in WW2? A scenario I never see discussed is what if the aids crisis didnt decimate the gay men of America in the 80s-90s? Its easy to forget 1 in 15 gay boomer men died. An estimated 300,000 deaths-

Most text rendering middleware for games only supports `kern` table kerning, but most fonts only ship with GPOS kerning data, so text can be badly spaced even if the same font looks fine outside the game (This might be my single biggest criticism of Marathon, the screen says ‘EXFIL TRA TED’)

What’s your low-stress, low-prio pet peeve in video games? Ex: For my old boss, it was nonsensical titles on books in the background. Mine is plants placed where plants could definitely not live. She needs a window or a grow light!! She needs to eat!!!!

my brain: we need to focus. Lock in. Deadline tomorrow, lots of work still needs to be done. It’s very important we focus, otherwise we won’t finish everything in time. also my brain: low poly rat challenge. Make a low poly rat right now

threw together what i thought would be a low-effort imitation of a peach habanero salsa I vaguely remember having about a month ago, half the ingredients substituted (including the habaneros) Reader, it is one of the best things i have ever made

it’s 2026 and people are still making websites with that stupid laggy smooth-scrolling that feels like trying to run underwater

I spent over a year designing this font license (& almost 5 years refining it), with gamedev as a primary use case. Just about every indie foundry I know is actively trying to improve this stuff, despite Monotype repeatedly setting the font industry’s collective goodwill on fire ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For any game developers* caught by the Monotype/Fontworks price hikes: - you can use our fonts for video games - there are no usage caps or renewal fees - unrestricted trial fonts for in-engine testing - smaller dev teams pay less. mass-driver.com *Extended Latin support, but not Japanese, sorry!
