Lifelong Pittsburgher, policy, tech, food, kindness, living that Liberal Arts life. I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you.

I keep thinking today about how people are like vast nets - their networked knowledge, their cultural references, their experiences, so dense and extraordinary it would take each of us our own lifetime to understand their lifetime, and how lovely that is.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Most of us don't want to optimize every minute of every day, remove confusion from every interaction, get rid of all social interaction, or eliminate thinking entirely. I can see the appeal of all those things, but we're not robots. An "optimized" life filled with AI sounds dull and soulless.

For the rich have always been gothic in the collective imagination. We know their actions outside of the wall as dark and monstrous, why should they themselves be any less repellent and shadowed in its shield of secrecy? - Dr. M. Benn

ME: Shhh, be very quiet, I’m training my horse to think. THEM: What horse? I don’t see a horse. ME: He hasn’t learned to think yet, so he doesn’t exist. THEM: What. ME: That’s logic: He doesn’t think, therefore, he ain’t. THEM: Oh no. ME: What? THEM: You put Descartes before the horse
