I find this interesting because many blue cities operate like this already. NYC is effectively ruled only by Dems, and yet there’s ideological diversity and infighting. but it does feel like everyone fights bc they care. It sometimes seems that Republicans don‘t care about anything

more people will try to distance themselves from the GOP debacle. it's a good time to reflect on the fact that that party doesn't need to exist

Dozens of Republican candidates directly endorsed by Donald Trump lost their US midterm election races, according to analysis by the Guardian, raising questions over the power of the president’s support.

I watched flight data all summer showing ICE flights landing in San Juan--sometimes doing three removal flights a day to the Dominican Republic for weeks on end--and wondered what that looked like on the ground. Excellent dispatch from @hammerandhope.bsky.social. hammerandhope.org/article/puer...

In Puerto Rico, the People Demand “ICE, Go Home!”

An intensifying ICE presence and local government complicity have prompted a defiant politics of sanctuary that is both pro-immigrant and anticolonial.

What confuses me as a lay person abt the math and AI debate is that Open AI digested human work and thought to solve these problems. It is unclear to me how human understanding will progress if math is purely left to AI when we *know* AI does not and will never possess human intelligence

I’m old enough to remember that back in 2014 there were genuine arguments about if news outlets should show ISIL executing its victims. Since then, our tolerance for cruelty and violence thanks to social media has now led to this:

The US will livestream the Army's upcoming firing squad execution of Nidal Hasan, a gunman who killed 13 people at the Fort Hood military base in 2009, the Pentagon said, in what would be an unprecedented broadcast of a US execution. reut.rs/4jMNL9x

My undergrad was (mostly) a commuter school yet I vividly remember at least one man who had a gun and made death threats against two girls, his exes. The university did next to nothing, to my knowledge. One dropped out. I think she never finished university

I think its important to understand the campus sexual assault crisis is way worse than you think. universities suspend just 1/12,400 students each year for sexual misconduct & expel 1/22,900. once you read title ix administrators in their own words, you get a sense why that is:

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Google finally updated some of its satellite images of Gaza and my god, it's horrific. The entirety of Rafah has been demolished. The majority of Khan Younis is in ruins. Entire towns completely leveled and erased of the map.

DILLEY DETENTION CENTER NUMBER 2 Call it a “staging facility” all you want. The contract says detention. There’s playground equipment behind the fence. And Dilley has already held children far beyond the roughly 20-day Flores limit. Now they’re building “Dilley 2.” We know what this is!

I don't have time to write more, but ICE is working to remove people to third countries in violation of D.V.D. v. DHS. I've been up since 5:20 A.M. working with two other attorneys to prevent our client from being shipped out. If you rep someone at risk of third country removal, check on them NOW

BREAKING: The plane appearing to have been scheduled to fly third-country nationals to 3 African countries today—before an appeals court prohibited it last night—has taken off, landed at Gitmo (Somalis in ICE camp there) and is now in San Juan, a common refueling stop for ICE flights to Africa.
