Governments sometimes do (and should!) make decisions that are not politically popular. But dismissing and invalidating that opposition is not leadership. It's small and petty.

Researchers have repeatedly shown that bike lanes, automatic enforcement, and road diets save lives. The safety impact of AVs are far more speculative. Do AV boosters genuinely care about safety? Or is it just a useful talking point?

The premier often cited that "1%" of Toronto commuters rode bikes. The province's own data shows that in wards that actually have safe cycling infrastructure, cycling commute share was as high as 15% in 2022, probably far higher now!

Nobody disputes that having access to a car in a car-dominated society is good. It gives one access to jobs, healthcare, food, education, social opportunities and more. All we're asking is for people to go one step deeper and ask why access to such basic rights requires buying and operating a car.

Absolutely terrible news. While these e-kick scooters remain in a regulatory black hole no level of government seems eager to address (legal to buy, not necessarily legal to ride, effectively no limits on power/speed), it's a tragic reminder that the real danger on our roads is from cars.
