bookseller, book buyer, book scout, bookstore owner, horror & rare book collector. I don't read; it's my terrible secret, please don't tell anybody I used to be famous for being trans, like you. Then I took an arrow in the knee. Psalms 109:8

I know that "drivers from [X] are terrible" is mostly confirmation bias, but it really is incredible how much driving not just badly, but like an asshole in my area is accompanied by New Hampshire plates. I know they love Live Free or Die, but Fuck You, Out of my Way would be way more appropriate

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

When no child wants to go through this and no parent wants to put them through it, when interest in participating in girls/women's sports dries up so completely that there simply aren't enough athletes to sustain a program anywhere at last, it won't be an accident. It will be a goal fulfilled.

An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

The Campaign to Force Genital Exams on Girl Athletes Soon Washington State could require sex-verification tests for those playing sports in schools.

Silksong Update: I'm deep in the guts of Act 3 now and making a real effort to fight & find (not necessarily in that order) everything. I have liked this game a lot more than I was expecting to. A few things have struck me as real low points, but overall I've enjoyed my time with it.

Update: in the name of saying nice things, I've really liked most of this game. Lace is cool. Phantom's cool. First sinner? cool. Mount Faye was grueling, but rewarding. Even Raging Conchfly was fun! Fuck Groal. More specifically fuck everything they glued onto him instead of making him interesting

Trying to decide if I should go see the Od movie tonight even though it would mean I, a 42 year old, would not be leaving the theater until after 10:30. PM. In the night time.

There are more people who've parlayed middling athletic prospects into profitable careers decrying the inclusion of trans women in sports than there are trans women in sports.

really loving all the protests against and support for trans women happening in and around the WNBA, a league that has never had a trans woman play in it. we’re just THAT interesting to talk about! for everyone! how fun!!!!

Delighting my friend's 9 & 12 year old kids by doing an impression of the sound modems used to make when connecting to the internet. Horrifying them by telling them about how no one could use the phone while you were online.

My employee was running a bit behind this morning. A woman was looking in the windows when she arrived. "Sorry, we'll be open in just a moment!" my employee said. The woman responded with disdain, "oh, don't worry. I won't be patronizing this bookstore." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

My bookstore is unapologetically leftist. I work very hard to curate our inventory. We often get compliments from customers. We also, sometimes, get people who wander around for a bit with a look of abject disgust on their face before quietly leaving. This, too, feels like a compliment.

And today I came across the first 100% for sure one I've seen on Edelweiss (the website where publishers put their catalogs for ordering.) It's not like it makes my job *harder* because they are universally trash on top of being slop, but man I don't wanna do this.

I have now had the second children's book "author" ask me to carry their book which is 100% AI generated garbage. I swear to god, if I can get my fingernails into the seams of this reality, I'm going to tear it to pieces.

Using lists of three is not an "AI tell." It's a common trait in human writing because our brains biologically want to make sure there's always one thing to marry, one thing to fuck, and one thing to murder.
