I always work to correct the instinct to preach “Now here’s what this passage means you have to go and do” to “This is what God is doing/has done”. There’s a time and a place for the “Go and do likewise” but it’s less frequent than most preachers think.

Checking my work email on Monday means clicking through a half-dozen reflections on yesterday's Mass readings from various Catholic email subscriptions and I just do not understand the iron-tight hold "the REAL miracle was everyone sharing the food they'd brought" has on people.

The RCL mangles Gen 37 this week. ““Here comes this dreamer. Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits; then we shall say that a wild animal has devoured him, and we shall see what will become of his dreams.” Mention of dreams in the lection? 0 We entirely skip them.

Same issue. Different symptom.

Heard a sermon today that made me want to fist pump when the preacher made the link from the sufficiency of five loaves and two fish to feed 5000 to the sufficiency of Christ’s one sacrifice for the sins of the world.

For the record: NOPE. Honestly, I don’t think there’s an issue today I care about on a personal level more deeply than trans rights. And it’s rough out there right now. Bigots on one side of the political aisle and too many cowards on the other. ⬇️

I saw yesterday that some right-wing outlets were running stories about me, which I’m used to. But this time I’m going to say something about it, because these were framed to imply that I was aligned with their own transphobia. ⬇️

New notecards have arrived! One of the best priests I know regularly writes thank you notes, for even the smallest of things, and I’ve seen how much they have meant to people.

I love Jerusalem both as poetry and its musical setting but I’ve always found it a baffling choice for an English national anthem.

stop. if you think the existence of a warrant is part of the conversation in any way, you cannot, by definition, argue that it makes any difference whether the guy they killed had a warrant or not. because right guy or wrong guy, an arrest warrant isn't a death sentence.
