"The Home Office has identified a new problem with migrant care workers. The people presented as a burden on Britain because they earn too little have become so indispensable that they must be prevented from finding a better or higher-paid job." ukandeu.ac.uk/unaffordable...

Unaffordable? No, indispensable. The government tries to move the goalposts for care workers - UK in a changing Europe

Jonathan Portes argues that the government has flipped from treating migrant care workers as a problem to presenting them as a necessity,...

Jenrick: “No one has done more than Nigel Farage to stand up against racism and the far right” Farage has exploded a brexity, anti-immigration, small boats, mass-deportations, ICE-style cruelty, riots and racism bomb on the UK and now stands back and tells us only he can fix the damage he’s caused.

Jackdaw will not bring down bills or protect jobs. This is an irresponsible decision from a government that seems to care more about the profits of fossil fuel companies than the money in your pocket or the safety of our planet.

The image is a graphic of Carla Denyer with a speech bubble that reads:

“Jackdaw will not bring down bills or protect jobs. This is an irresponsible decision from a government that seems to care more about the profits of fossil fuel companies than the money in your pocket or the safety of our planet.

There is no future in fossil fuels. Pretending otherwise fails workers, billpayers, and the next generation who deserve to inherit a planet safe from climate catastrophe.”

❗❗❗Mark Zuckerberg's meta just suspended the No Kings Instagram account. I just rushed back from my local No Kings to jump on this. Bottom line, would be helpful for all pro-No Kings folks to elevate the issue and help us get the word out about No Kings today. The Nerd Reich strikes again.

As two major government reviews into “welfare” are set to finally report back, the right wing press are not even hiding their attempts to shape the reforms. The Left needs to get ready. My col. in today’s paper on Britain’s big benefits debate: www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The right’s scrounger rhetoric dominates the benefits debate. Labour must fight back – and win | Frances Ryan

The prime minister has a once-in-a-generation chance to reintroduce fairness to the system. He has to seize the moment, says Guardian columnist Frances Ryan

This is part of a methodology I’m going to call Fascist Edging. It’s deliberate, to move the Overton Window. It’s speculative. Can we go this far yet? What’s the backlash? From whom? Did anyone support/excuse? It’s seeding the idea. Get it talked about. Absorb the initial shock. Normalise.

Pretty hard to misconstrue "If they need to use lethal force, then they’ll be able to do so" as anything but a policy allowing the use of lethal force. People in small boats aren't firing at anybody, Farage knows this. This is all Reform nonsense. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Note once again that there is not one pro-refugee included view here - no politician from the Greens or SNP or even the Labour left, no activist or lawyer, and certainly no actual asylum seeker - and "balance" consists of presenting a choice of exactly how vile we should be to people

Reform pledges to suspend asylum system for up to five years and deport claimants

All asylum applications would be rejected and existing ones voided, with all claimants marked for deportation.

Earlier this year, E3G released a big report with the Department of War Studies at Kings College which showed that our dependence on gas is a major national security risk. Cutting heat pumps to fund defence is like not paying for a flu jab so you can buy lemsip. It makes no sense.

🚨YOU DID IT!!!!🚨 More than 10,000 people saying NO to earned settlement. Because of your support the government HAS to issue a formal response to a policy it hoped would slip throuch unoticed. 🌈 THANK YOU to everyone who signed, shared, and spoke out. 🌈 act.praxis.org.uk/andy-burnham...

To Andy Burnham: Scrap the earned settlement proposals

Sign the petition and call on Prime Minister Andy Burnham to scrap the earned settlement plans. They are unpopular. They are divisive. And they will devastate our already struggling NHS and our social...

This would be economically illiterate & environmentally disastrous - and makes us less secure: undermining efforts to reduce energy bills by reducing dependence on gas, increasing vulnerability to global dictators, driving climate emissions & knee capping a market that’s just beginning to take off

Ministers preparing to slash heat pump subsidies to fund defence spending

Exclusive: Some of £2bn savings needed from energy budget expected to come from boiler upgrade scheme, sources say

Trump’s obeisance to Putin has been established beyond even the vaguest scintilla of doubt; the possibility of another January 6-style assault on US democracy after/during the mid-terms is clearly acute and ‘we’ are still wary of calling fascism fascism. These are the moments…

I mean, yeah, but maybe the party funded by Cryptobillionaires, led by millionaires, and pushing policies, by their own acknowledgement , specifically aimed at making the poorest poorer, should sit this particular argument out?

Tories are for the wealthy not the workers, says Jenrick
Reform’s Treasury spokesman to say Conservatives’ inheritance tax pledge proves party has ‘given up’ on ‘strivers and savers’

Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played
