Since Gaza the coverage by Canadian Press has gone from one-sided pro Israel to outright propaganda to actively fanning disinformation and fear. These headlines have dangerous geopolitical implications with Trump's open threat against Canada. But the @thestar.com helps spread the BS.

Most people in the world are decent and oppose genocide. Most people are also powerless. Power to the people.
UofT features prominently in @breachmedia.ca article. 2 points to consider: 1. UofT initiated network of communications between 30 universities/colleges across Canada. 2.Rather than facilitate existing policies on academic freedom/Charter rights, strategies were shared to actively suppress rights.

And even more apocalyptic is that there is no one rolling out guillotines out onto the streets.
There is something apocalyptic about the utter shamelessness and corruption with which people like Kushner, Trump, Infantino and all that lot are just pillaging the institutions to which they have access.
Smoke from American fires now invading Canada. Tariffs therefore?
There is still lots of sympathy in our storytelling for the people who cause the problems, and little interest in their victims.
7. The film centers Odysseus's guilt over his war crimes, but never shows us the POV of his victims, and instead glorifies the perpetrator for feeling bad about himself. I found this unsatisfying ethically and worse, imaginatively, because Damon's character is given only one mood (Troubled).
Lemme tell you about the angel of history being blown backwards into the future: The shackles these people have been put in are Hiatt brand, same company founded in 1780 to mass produce shackles for slaver ships.
The use of extremely online memetic aesthetics to support far-right political goals is like something out of Walter Benjamin’s nightmares.

This is a massive blow to transparency in Canada, which was already bleak. It means Canada is keeping Canadians in the dark about their own past.

$3,000 is not nearly enough for each of my books that Anthropic stole. Each book took me almost a decade to research and write--yet I and other authors are receiving a pittance while the AI models based on our stolen labor are worth multiple billions.
A federal judge has approved a US$1.5 billion copyright settlement in which artificial intelligence company Anthropic will pay thousands of authors about US$3,000 per book after using pirated copies of their works to train its Claude chatbot.

This is not a ceasefire. While the Israeli military continues to occupy 80% of Gaza, it is killing Palestinians through airstrikes, bombings, drone and crane attacks, severe restrictions on humanitarian aid, and the targeting of aid workers.

I know I keep going on about this, but Canada attempting to increase surveillance powers at the same time that it's obvious there will be increased civil disobedience and resistance to "critical infrastructure" projects is noteworthy, yet no one mentions it in their analysis bsky.app/profile/jeff...
Has anyone written about the intersection between Bill C-2 and Bill C-5? They are directly related but I haven't really seen anyone analyze that. Bill C-2 creates extra surveillance powers to further criminalize Indigenous people (and allies) resisting the "national interest" projects C-5 enables.
Why does every single American news photo of Iran include an Iranian propaganda poster or mural? It's just another example of how America's own propaganda machine flattens and dehumanizes supposed enemies. Just point the camera another direction for once and show us what's there.
