In 1967, Israeli aircraft and surface vessels attacked a U.S. Navy ship. This was not "friendly fire," the U.S. flag was flying and the ship was easily identified. USN sailors and various civilians aboard USS Liberty were killed or injured. The U.S. government--then and now--tried to hide the facts.
