Cortex is a roll and keep dice mechanic. You roll some dice and keep some of them, usually two, adding them together. What I love about this is that the only math in the game is addition. You don’t subtract anything, you don’t multiply or divide. There’s no percentages.

I’ve been playing around with this a bit, and it’s really cool (as a standalone game, worldbuilding tool, or PC backstory generator). My alien lost his father to dementia, his mother in the planet’s collapse, then was radicalized by alien researchers who chose earth as their target for conquest.
