This anticipated executive order from President Trump to dismantle the Department of Education poses an existential threat to our public education system and our state finances. My statement ⬇️
The Governor’s focus on infrastructure and education are two things I’m most focused on coming out of tonight’s State of the State address. We’ve made great strides these last two years in those two areas — and I’m committed this year to doing even more for Downriver and Western Wayne County.
Coffee, flowers, bananas, and many other items are about to be at least 25% more expensive because of Trump.
To help kick off 2025, I’m continuing my tour across Michigan with more Purpose Driven Community Conversations to hear what issues matter most to Michiganders in 2025. This week, we stopped in Canton w/ Rep @ranjeevpuri.bsky.social and Downriver w/ Sen @darrincamilleri.bsky.social.
Democrats were elected to fix Michigan’s problems. We’ve solved many over the last two years, but there’s more work to do. Read my op-Ed in today’s @freep.com:
Democrats were elected to fix Michigan's problems. We've got to get to work. | Opinion

The Senate is here working through the night to finish the work of the people, including major priorities our colleagues have worked on for years.
Four years ago the Michigan House Oversight Committee and the attempt to undermine the results of the 2020 election was parodied on SNL. I feel like I’ve lived multiple lifetimes since this moment. And the parody never fully lived up to the real thing.
I want to be on the record to say that I don’t think it’s appropriate for the president to pardon his own family members or any political allies. It’s ridiculous that we’ve come to this point.

.@erikageiss.bsky.social, @darrincamilleri.bsky.social and I recently introduced the Teach MI History bill package in the Michigan Senate! If passed, these bills would ensure that Michigan students learn the history of communities of color. #mileg 1/3 www.cbsnews.com/detroit/news...

Donald Trump just told us that he’s going to raise costs 25% on a huge amount of consumer goods. What a disaster for Americans’ pocketbooks.
Breaking News: President-elect Donald Trump said that he would impose a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico on his first day in office, a move that would scramble North American supply chains and impose heavy costs on businesses around the continent.
Why aren’t right wing organizations and legislators demanding that our legislative oversight committees do a forensic audit of the election? Because they only sow doubt in government and our elections when they lose.
Asked many people Friday where the individuals were who have repeatedly shown up and labeled Michigan's election system corrupt at past canvassers meetings:
I cannot understate how bad it will be with a former WWE Executive as Education Secretary. Students are no longer going to be the priority — if confirmed, her only goal will be a right wing agenda focused on destabilizing public schools.
Congrats to the thousands of nurses who work at Corewell Hospitals across our community – including nurses at the Trenton, Wayne, and Taylor campuses!
