More than doubling international competitions, moving to debt financing and a Kushner company to run commercial operations. And no mention of women’s football. Abolish FIFA. Forever. It’s time to start over with football administration.

The idea that social media is bad for teens is a textbook manufactured moral panic that is not based in reality in the slightest, and it's been pushed entirely by people who have a strong reason to want to end anonymity online and exert much stronger control over the speech of marginalized people.
Thoughtful thread from one who reviews synthetic text infected academic writing as part of his job. It’s bleak. The sooner the AI bubble bursts, the better.
The anatomy of an AI-supported academic article is becoming more apparent. I desk reviewed ~70 manuscripts this week for our journal. Reckon 20ish had significant AI assistance. On top of hundreds of others recently I'm starting to see patterns. Are other editors are seeing the same or similar? 1/

Fun fact: cobweb comes from the Middle English coppeweb, which comes from the Old English name for spider, atorcoppe. Ator means poison, coppe means round thing. They looked at spiders and went oh yeah, the little round poison things

Investors 'all but gone' from Melbourne property market after budget
With clearance rates in Melbourne sitting just above 50 per cent, experts say sluggish sales show investors have lost trust in bricks and mortar.

Hmm. A rich Catholic organisation appears to have engaged in financial and/or real estate fraud in order to cheat abuse victims out of compensation payments. Not sure how to describe how I feel about this, but it certainly isn’t ‘shocked’.
This is Oliver. How he learned his wizardry I have no idea. Top freaking tier.

Every year now there’s at least one book about how no one is heterosexual anymore. It’s amazing how much mileage you can get out of a ludicrously false premise. The issue is not that heterosexuality is uncool, the “issue” is that women finally have choices
Perfect ("satirical") summary of the AI bubble. The whole thing is gold: www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/ai-...
Cannot fucking believe an external 4TB SSD drive that cost me $200 last year is now $1100. Had to check receipts to make sure. They’re really out there trying to keep you from having a PC, phone, or a gaming console so they can have hallucinating, polluting chatbots that drop bombs on kids’ schools.
AI is mainly championed by ppl who bluffed their way through life, never understanding how anything works. When AI promised to offload thinking from humans, they went "Finally, we can ALL drop the act!" only to be met with blank stares. So it's either embrace AI or admit they are failures as people.
If Labor’s NDIS cuts are to reduce “fraud and waste” then I humbly suggest that throwing folks with disabilities and their careers under the bus is perhaps not the most efficient way to do so…

Hello. My name is Iguana Monitorya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
I’m on the committee of a local football club. If we ran the Tigers this way we’d be chased out of town. Interesting that these clowns are allowed to let their lazy prejudices and a brutal neoliberal framing destroy tertiary education and my alma mater. Oh well. Community football goes on…
'ANU Council approved the $250 million Renew ANU program (with its savings target of 16.5% of total expenditure) “without clear evidence it was needed, achievable, urgently required, or likely to have the intended impact”.' This is a recurring pattern in university governance here and overseas.
My day job is at a rural branch of a public library, and we have a Pride display. Yesterday I was at the desk when a man came in. Fifties, maybe, or sixties. Plaid shirt, mesh trucker cap, suspenders. He went up to the display and just stood there for a long moment. Then he came up to the desk. 🧵 1/
