Boring, opinionated old guy, those just my good points!😊extremely worried for future with 2 extreme far right parties & far right Lab Govt, any/more than 1 of which, will prob be in Govt post GE. Pro EU membership, NHS, equality, Social liberal. 🏏 bore.
A year ago, some feeble-minded children in No10 and the Home Office got nervous about Farage,l and then got nervous about Labour MPs rebelling, and now here we are: a hyper-complex, arbitrary, talent-repelling administrative nightmare, introduced for reasons no-one articulate.
What is the problem it is intended to solve? Why is it happening? What is the moral argument for the distinctions it creates? How will it make life better for anyone?
I'm glad there's been some softening - it's better than what came before. But it remains cruel, anti-integration, retrospective, and utterly without purpose.
Mahmood plans an absolute dog's breakfast. The whole thing was originally undertaken to get rid of care workers, but they will now mostly get ILR after 5-year, while others wait 10. Inexplicable on moral or practical terms. Many refugees left without security basically indefinitely.
All true Ian - but something more or less the same was said about reopening debate on the Corn Laws (a previous act of British self harm ) in the 1840s and if that’s the best they’ve got in 2026 Burnham should suggest self harm is fine for masochists but not for the majority of British people
Badenoch's attack on Burnham - that no-one wants to reopen the debate on Brexit - is disingenuous, stagnant and cynical. But it is also by far the most effective argument the anti-Europeans have and Burnham looked a bit unsettled by it.
Sadly after last couple of days interview subsequent clarifications that Burnham will not have the courage to lead on the issue of Britain’s relationship with EU except along the delusional tract that Starmer was following of ‘making Brexit work’
Meanwhile saying nothing about Tory policy to quit ECHR which would also kick off a massive constitutional debate about Europe. It's the lamest argument.
Strange how widespread the framing of "do we want to talk about this again?" is on the Right Might buffer debate kicking off, but leaves them stranded once it does www.thetimes.com/article/6154...
I have more respect for hardcore leavers saying it would be bad for the UK than this pathetic "yes it was a mistake but we shouldn't talk about it because its polarising" BS. Lots of politics is polarising.
You have to laugh at the sheer insanity of Turning Point UK being found to be organising literal contract killings and paid agitation at protests up and down the country and it barely even raises a flicker across the press. If that isn't 'terrorism' on some level I don't really know what is
People need a firm foundation and a sense of direction and hopefully Burnham’s initiativewill give this. Whether that will be EU membership I don’t know; but other amicable arrangements can be made. It’s important that those who champion one outcome continue to respect those with different views.
Any minute now, the Labour government will be proscribing Turning Point UK, right? Right?
I have hopes that Burnham’s horizons stretch further into the future than ‘the next vote’. Short term thinking from both big parties is to blame for a lot.

Labour seem unable to learn that in some situations there is a right side and a wrong side. Sometimes a compromise is entirely inappropriate. There’s no balance to be found between racists and non-racists. No balance between climate change deniers and reality.
So many issues. First and foremost, it's clear Labour is determined to go further than last government on cruelty. Secondly, they don't learn. Hostile policies don't"stop boats". They shift routes. Hence more arrivals currently at Gosport, which will move somewhere else. inews.co.uk/news/uk-new-...

Not only is Andrew Boff a very long-standing Conservative politician but he was one of Kemi Badenoch's close colleagues on the London Assembly. That she can't even tolerate him having different views, shows quite how intolerant of dissent they now are under her leadership

In any normal time, the far right proposing policies which UK Labour are already implementing would be a wake up call as to how anti-trans, anti-rights, Labour has become. Instead we will see the same people who condemn the far right policies support the Labour government implementing the exact same
Far-right provincial party One BC has proposed a "gender ideology task force," which would ban trans women from women's spaces, outlaw the teaching of "gender ideology" in schools ,and force government documents to only include sex assigned at birth (among other things!) x.com/One_BCHQ/sta...
It doesn't say much for either that they aped them in the first place. Labour's stance on immigration is sickening with no push back on fascist rhetoric but see also Benefits, trans, disabled, etc etc johnhuwevans.wordpress.com/2025/11/02/r...

When did they stop? They've just implemented new guidance to restrict trans' lives even more than they already had. They've reduced 'benefits' and are making an already hostile system even more so. They constantly crow about a reduction in 'small boat' arrivals.
Trump’s a Russian asset, Farage’s party is a racist enterprise, Putin wanted Brexit & if you tried to make a list of all the UK politicians & pundits who’ve backed all three, you’d be here for hours.
It’s gone so crazily downhill in the last few years
The fact that The Times has descended to the level of insanity of the Sun, Telegraph etc. is underpriced and seems to go unnoticed by many people who still see it as "one of the better ones" is worrying. That this blindness by them in turn isn't being commented on is worrying as well.
Vital that Lab announce in near future, definitively, that all their current EU rejoin red lines, will be eliminated as part of their next GE manifesto pledge. They must also emphatically & w/out any room for future ‘re-interpretation’ commit to rejoin, with full compliance to 4 freedoms of SM.

BBC News has been broken for more than a decade now.
The far-R goons imposed at BBC by Tories need to be removed.
