Climate risks compound. Drought means a loss of reactors. Heat means a spike in electricity demand. These are the brittle fail points in our systems, but the real problem is that we're just beginning to discover how many there are.

Climate x energy polycrisis, in a nutshell: “Romania blasts rock to divert water from drought-hit Danube to nuclear reactor” www.theguardian.com/world/2026/a...

luckily Iran has always backed down from retaliating and we can rest assured that Gulf infrastructure will not be in danger and the world economy will not be crippled for the foreseeable future /s

Just checking out this little summary of "the fastest energy transition in human history" and realizing that it's been a minute since I had to listen to Vaclav Smil confidently assure the world that all energy transitions are slow plodding affairs. theconversation.com/climate-acti...

Climate action can feel slow – but the fastest energy leap in history has begun

Weaning ourselves off fossil fuels is glacially slow – isn’t it? This pessimistic narrative doesn’t stack up against evidence of very rapid change in the real world.

The new technology that is going to actually transform this century is being able to manufacture and deliver solid state batteries at scale. There are so many applications for this, all of which will replace fossil fuels at a scale not seen before and enable things we have not yet dreamed of.

Reading the FT front page story about a Chinese company introducing a battery with a 1500 km range & six minute recharging time & about how two Chinese companies own more than half of the global EV battery market & I am struck by the different realities the US and China occupy. We’ve lost the plot.

Where much of the world relies on people, favours, and knowing someone who knows someone, Finns rely on institutions. Things work. Public services work. Hospitals work….There’s an unspoken social contract that mostly holds. www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti...

Opinion: In Finland, the secret to finding happiness is to not try

When I visited the country during its dark and cold winter, I learned why its been the global leader in contentment for years

"Increasingly the US is not so much the gatekeeper of the world’s only energy system, but the paranoid guardian of an ailing oil order that is rapidly losing primacy. Clean energy alternatives are becoming more attractive, cheaper, and—most importantly—more reliable."

War on Iran | Phenomenal World

The bombardment of Iran has caused an enormous commodity-supply shock, prompting an accelerated global rush to greener energy sources.

Disruptions mean countries will rush to exit US-led oil order. Worst case scenario for oil companies (best for rest of us) is that people permanently shift...what they call “demand destruction“ Iran war will accelerate ongoing shift to solar+EVs+batteries. ie CN winner bsky.app/profile/70sb...

69/ I agree. Impact of Iran war is STRUCTURAL shift to electrification stack. Read Lauri's thread: "The real, lasting effect of the 2021-22 fossil fuel crisis was a major acceleration in solar that pushed coal down *faster* than the pre-crisis trendline in the following years." x.com/laurimyllyvi...

Listen to this. There is a MATERIALworld. $200 per barrel oil, where this is heading in months of Iran's chokehold wld be an inflationary shockwave that will cause societies to boil & politicians heads to roll. The weakest people will suffer the most. Again, just as after Ukraine. Thread below

26/ JP Morgan on how Operation Epic Fury would end: "Resource risk will begin to outweigh increasingly marginal military gains and the conclusion to the conflict will come down to the three M’s : Munitions, Markets and Midterms." Sorry...This ends when Iran decides it has achieved its objectives.

The #Bettrification Curve is steepening. The global EV fleet has grown from ~100,000 vehicles in 2015 to 80 million in 2025. What looked like slow adoption a decade ago is now entering the exponential phase of the S-curve. The energy transition doesn’t move linearly — it tips. #EV -> #NEV

Threading some stuff about oil & oil markets, just basic but hope it helps: 1/ oil markets are what you call “finely balanced”. Supply is usually very very close to demand/consumption. Demand is hard to shift *quickly* in response to supply hiccups. So even small supply changes = big price effects

END/ 2 wars in 4 years. This war will accelerate Solar +Batteries + EVs as real Energy Security "rest of the world will learn an important lesson from China. Build out your renewables so you aren't as dependent on imported fossil fuels & the whims of idiots" Be like Spain. bsky.app/profile/jere...

Meanwhile, Spain's massive investment in renewables is paying dividends now: with prices for Spanish industry and consumers low and stable compared with other European economies. www.ft.com/content/ac77...
