Do you have an explanation for this @bchydro.bsky.social? #climateaction #climatechange (Don't tell me about the 2024 and 2025 calls for power. I already know about them. What I'm wondering is what on earth you were doing prior to that.)

Charts showing little to no growth in solar or wind electricity in BC since 2016Chart showing significant growth in wind energy in Alberta post 2015

As electrification continuous to push total electrical consumption up in #BC we have transitioned from a net-exporter of electricity to a net-importer. While #BC is still primarily powered by hydro electricity, deployment of wind and solar has lagged far behind Alberta and isn't seeing growth.

We’re using the word e-bike to describe too many things. Electric assist bikes are a version of bike & have many public interest benefits. But vehicles being driven by food delivery app drivers aren’t a form of bike…they’re a form of motorcycle. They don’t belong on sidewalks or pedestrian streets.

Picture of food delivery app driver, one of many, I see each day on downtown Vancouver’s Granville Street pedestrian zone. It’s a motor vehicle, and doesn’t belong on a vehicle-prohibited pedestrian street like Granville Street, and definitely not on sidewalks either.

New market rate housing helps poor people by keeping rich people from outbidding them for existing housing. Further, the past 50 years of CA housing policy show us that *not* building enough new market rate homes is TERRIBLE for the poorest, who are forced into overcrowded housing or homelessness.

My main point is that the market rate housing you advocate for will not help these people and that interests aligned with your group support punitive measures toward that population. You have definitely mobilized a grassroots army of defenders and advocates for market rate development.

Then meeting them halfway is not a remedy. It can be complicity. Then treating both sides as equivalent is not neutrality. It can be normalization. Then conflict and resistance are not the disease. They can be part of the solution.
