Was in the playground at Parliament Hill with my daughter and there were a big group of pre-teen boys who’d come there after their rugby practice. They were playing tag, the twist being, whoever was “it” had to shout, “Little Death is coming!!” and everyone else would scream and run away.

Expected behaviour from this mega hack. Hope people are sending him vids of Danny Boyle's latest Q&As. Hopefully the stigma of AI usage will hit such a level that fest programmers will diplomatically dump this stuff in out of comp slots… variety.com/2026/film/gl...

I’m excited for The Magician’s Nephew, especially as its story is almost identical to Barbie. Although have yet to be able to picture Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew. Also, can confirm it’s the best Narnia book and you don’t have to read any others to enjoy it.

Have the fondest memories of time spent with Jeremy. What were meant to be short chats at his Hanway St, and later Notting Hill, offices ended up lasting hours, as he walked and talked me through his vast archives. Boy, could that man tell a story. A warm, generous titan, and a devastating loss.

Sad to hear about the death of maverick British super producer Jeremy Thomas, responsible for The Shout, The Last Emperor, Naked Lunch, Crash, Sexy Beast, The Dreamers, Thirteen Assassins, Only Lovers Left Alive and many more auteur-driven classics. RIP

For his possible final film, Tender Loving Care, Mike Leigh decided to make his own Tokyo Story. Exceptional tragicomic exploration of life’s disappointments, and follow-up to the underloved (and equally great) Hard Truths.

Flinging salty rejoinders back and forth, John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell play CIA lowlifes as if they’re brothers, split by generations but with a bond that appears to transcend banal friendship – @daveyjenkins.bsky.social on Martin McDonagh's Wild Horse Nine

Wild Horse Nine – first-look review

A revitalising shot of pure entertainment from writer/director Martin McDonagh which also operates as a grave critique of modern US foreign policy.

Caught a restoration of Tinto Brass’s Deadly Sweet (1967) in Venice, an all-timer London location film. Highlight a chase that starts in Piccadilly Circus, goes into Holborn tube station, then ends up at Clapton dog track.

Had a very bizarre record shop experience in Sorrento, Italy. Entered the shop and began to browse the records, and the owner walked over to me and said he would rather I didn’t browse but use a QR code to download a dropbox spreadsheet with all his unpriced holdings.
