I get why there’s so many shows that come out in May but why are we getting so much TV coming out today?

I write about TV. Words at many places including The Daily Beast, Elle, Marie Claire, IGN, The Playlist, Backstage Magazine, and more. Talking about costumes, fashion and Felicity’s hair.
Bret Easton Ellis x Ryan Murphy = campy chaos (duh!) Say what you will, the two of them know how to keep you hooked & it's why FX's adaptation of #TheShards is frequently riveting, despite its surface-level dedication to the book's themes. My review:
The combined excess of Ryan Murphy and Bret Easton Ellis only cuts so deep in The Shards
The unwieldy, oddly compelling FX drama takes a few too many creative liberties with its source material.

The Shards using both Tusk and Peter Gabriel's "Here Come the Flood" only made me want to rewatch those Americans episode (yes, both songs are in the book).
My one comment about the fourth season of Ted Lasso: I really wish they’d heard the “Episodes are too long!” criticism and not responded with “Oh, so keep them at least 45 minutes long, yeah?”
I found the first four episodes of Ted Lasso to be uneven (especially for returning characters like Roy, Keeley, and Rebecca). However, I am a big fan of everything Tanya Reynolds is doing. Me for The Playlist theplaylist.net/ted-lasso-se...

‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 brings Jason Sudeikis back to Richmond to coach a new team, whose fresh energy offsets several familiar problems.

We (rightly) focus on what the bride wears in TV weddings, but I wanted to know about the costumes for the actors playing the wedding guests. For LA Times' The Envelope, I spoke to the costume designers for Love Story, The Gilded Age, Bridgerton, and Hacks www.latimes.com/entertainmen...

At the nuptials on 'Love Story,' 'Hacks,' 'Bridgerton' and 'The Gilded Age,' the guests may not upstage the bride and groom. But they certainly come close.

the piece about *why movies look that way* that i've been working on for 6 months was just killed, so if anyone is interested in a piece of reported cultural criticism, let me know
Listening to the Leftovers episode of @tvisgoodpod.bsky.social and was stumped for a moment by a pop culture reference before realizing @kvanaren.bsky.social was talking about Wall-e not Wally (which is what we call Waldo in the UK).
It's time for another round of the low stock game! There are *3* Xenomorph, *1* Great Pumpkin, *3* BTILC, and *2* Draper prints left in the shop! www.brianna-ashby.com/new-products

Em-dashes are a gift to writers who value rhythm and tempo in their writing, and who like to sweep the reader up in a continuous stream of thought. Quitting them because of AI is very much a Michael Bolton "Why should I change? He's the one who sucks" situation.
I'm just saying this now: there are going to be A LOT of em-dashes in my book. It's not because of AI. It's because I am addicted to using em-dashes. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/10/b...
This popped into my head every time Sadie Sink came on screen in the new Spider-Man
I finished rewatching Station Eleven, which was just as stirring (if not more so) this go around. In awe of everything it says about life, art, and memory. Terrific performances I will continue to think about. But once again, I would like to ask/beg for Dan Romer's score to get a vinyl release.

Oh, my God. Nicest guy. Was on the Pogues bill at Carnegie with him. His love of music was palpable, infectious, radiant. I’ve seldom seen a musician as connected to the moment of the song as he was that night, in deep communion with the song & the people playing it. So many felt it. Hard loss.
