‘How could you ever go back to working without AI?’ is a sentiment that applies to software engineers and college students. For most workplaces it’s a non issue.

a banner found above the front doors of the police HQ in Madison, Wisconsin this morning stated: “Arrest the killer cop, 608-266-4211.”
here's a fun lil exercise for cis people: how many articles would a publication have to print calling for your extermination before you would expect people who care about you to stop giving them money? and how would you feel if their excuse for still supporting them is some fuckass crossword puzzle?
“In other words: generative AI is catnip to the men who miss female syncophants.” katemanne.substack.com/p/a-culture-...
A Culture Hooked on Generative AI is a Culture that Misses Female Syncophants
And we have missed a central reason why AI is a feminist issue

When we don't adequately fund public universities, and instead force students to take out loans, what we as a society are really doing is borrowing money from the younger generation—their hard-earned future income—to fund a necessary project that benefits us all: building an educated society.
1. This is bullsh*t & an epically stupid policy completely detached from any empirical evidence: bsky.app/profile/mcop... 2. We could simply avoid this entire issue by <all together now> Funding. The. Damn. Public. Universities. Like. We. Used. To: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
This! Not only is “come in the right way” a lie, there is no pathway at all for most ppl. Are you an established genius? Direct family member of a US citizen? Seeking asylum? If not there is no path.
Legal immigration as most Americans conceive of it does not meaningfully exist in the United States. "Just come here the right way" is one of the most pernicious lies in contemporary US politics, accepted across the aisle as the goal of the immigration debate when it's impossible in reality.

“If this was true, I would be in jail” is not a real profession of innocence; it is a brag about how strenuously the state protects the male right of private sphere violence against women and children.
Those who believe things like this are working hard at not understanding the finite options available to someone whose abuser has not been prosecuted, found guilty, etc. by the law. And how rarely those things happen to abusers, esp. high-status white male abusers.
Blaming consumers for capitalist production processes is a thing you can do. But it’s silly. Consumers don’t control the levers of political economy. Full stop.
Does anybody have any questions about my reporting on Congressman Max Miller and the allegations he faces?
Constantly left astonished at Western reporting on people seeking asylum. 54 HUMAN BEINGS dead in an unbelievable tragedy at Ceuta and the media insist on leading with 'MIGRANT INVASION'. You inhumane bastards. What if they were your loved ones? When empathy gives way to hate, we're all doomed.
Just read the article from Liberal Currents about Prairieland and the analysis is very poor. Especially the 1st Amendment analysis.
For context Ford’s River Rouge complex employed 100k, Foxconn’s central complex employs a few hundred thousand. Whether or not those are jobs worth having is a whole different story involving unions and worker struggles. But the data center jobs narrative is just laughable.
Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."
Ameaka Fatima Nkempu, a Johns Hopkins University researcher in public health, was detained by ICE while boarding a domestic flight. She says she is Cameroonian in a Medium article that she authored. As of Thursday morning, the ICE Online Detainee Locator did not list where she was being held.

Imagine Wikipedia adding a “generate a plausible-looking citation for any claim you type’” button. Now imagine it comes with a photo to match.
I used to do some work on the ethical use of satellite and drone imagery for aid and disaster response, and it is genuinely hard to express in words what a dangerous, stupid thing Google is doing by making it easy to use GenAI to create faked satellite imagery:
It’s easy to make fun of academics for over-using social construct, but *you* try teaching young people about race, nature, nation, gender and pretty much 1000 other concepts that the dominant culture has umm constructed to appear natural and immutable.
Schrödinger’s covid. A virus so powerful it was created as a bio weapon and leaked from a lab. A virus so weak that the responses to it (social distancing, vaccines) caused more harm.
Concerns over fake phenomena cannot be held in good faith. There's no such thing as "good faith" concern over razorblades in Halloween apples or vaccines causing autism. If you still have 'concerns' about these issues you are uninformed, a bigot or being manipulated. No other option.
I'm just a small-town political scientist, but I see all of these polls & again can't help but think we don't need yet another Ezra Douthglesias podcast this week clutching meta-pearls about What Democrats Must Do. The answer seems to be "oppose fascism & corruption, with local characteristics" 🧐🤷♂️
As @jonathanbernstein.bsky.social said yesterday:
I found the WNBA live fan experience in Seattle to be so wholesomely queer and pro-women (all women not just cis women). I loved it, my daughter loved it. We were bummed moving to Philly to lose the local WNBA experience. It’s a shame that the conservative outrage machine is taking on the WNBA.

Approximately 1 out of 3 women will experience sexual and/or physical abuse in their lifetime and you still have men claiming that allegations must be false because there are too many of them. It’s actually the opposite. The vast majority allegations will never become public

OpenAI is now by their own admission guilty of violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act *at least twice* and nobody's been arrested but Aaron Swartz was going to spend the rest of his life in prison for helping people read academic journals for free. Fuck all of these motherfuckers.
The Warm Springs Reservation is currently ablaze. My friends are worried about their families and their elders. Elder housing has burned and some people appear to be missing. An entire community is struggling to breathe. Anything at all helps, so please consider the following resources:
My Haitian friend was just fired from his job. "They said I don't have a legal status now." This is likely happening to hundreds of thousands of people across this country today. Sick.
Yeah it’s been interesting watching the guy who closed Black schools, was in charge when a police black site rendition camp was exposed, and covered up a police murder gets onto national platforms to say “ignore the groups” without that challenged or his record raised,
