Got to see the Melvins play in Detroit tonight. They seem to have discovered the true note beneath all other notes, and they are not afraid of JAMMING on that thing

:wishbone the dog dressed completely in black robes with a sick dog muzzle at a writing desk in a palace: Memory oppresses me. Having been reared among the torturers, I have never known my father or my mother. No more did my brother apprentices know theirs. From time to time....

play is always at the heart of poetry. i believe this deeply. even when the subject matter is not fun, not joyful, even when it is very difficult (which is often the case), there's still play happening in the language, in the form, in the leaps & associations, in the ampersands, even in the silences

This was a poem I had to read a couple times before it *clicked*. Once it did, wow--so honored to have had Dale Going in PSP. I have her poems' last lines run through my head all the time. "--Dearie, it's like singing into a piece of toast."

Remembering the poet Dale Going, who was a joy to work with, and whose poem "This Is My Secret Society My Private Tribe," we nominated for a Pushcart Prize last year. Read the whole poem here: www.publicschoolpoetry.com/dale-going

Beginning of Dale Going's poem "This Is My Secret Society My Private Tribe"

This is a newly processed view of the largest volcano in the Solar System, Olympus Mons. It's 21 km tall. It's as wide as Arizona. Metropolitan LA fits inside its summit caldera. Its basal cliff is 7 km high. And it started to grow ~3.5 billion years ago but has lavas only 2 million years old.

Olympus Mons. The summit caldera (and two impact craters) are clearly visible at the top of the edifice. A large escarpment circles the volcano. An orographic cloud is at centre right.
