This is Oregon's worst fire season in history by acres burned, and we have 2 months of fire season (to the extent that such a thing still exists) to go. There will be more Spokanes, more Warm Springs, before it's done. The sounds that I crave now are running water, rain on the roof, frogsong.

Unfortunately, it is likely that smoke from the fires in Washington and Oregon get pulled westward over the Pacific Ocean, down the coast and toward the Bay Area by Wednesday. Other parts of Northern California, like Tahoe, could get smoke as early as Tuesday.

Here’s a zoomed-in shot of the summit and Columbia crest glacier. Note how carved the mountain is by erosion. It’s been about 2,000yrs since the mountain has seen a voluminous eruptive period, so erosion has outpaced the mountain’s building.
