How come Mitch McConnell is still getting paid to be a senator, but Lindsey Graham, John McCain, and Ted Kennedy are not?

Mount Rainier, Mount St Helens and Mount Adams poke above a smoky Washington sky on Wednesday morning. #WAwx
Last night my neighbor saw me plunging my hand into the soil, grabbing a fistful of worms then raising them triumphantly above my head as I laughed and lightning crashed around me. Going to be difficult to explain that one.

I sometimes ponder running a fake 'Honest Republican' candidate/platform that explicitly calls for an ethnoreligious-economic caste system (with the poor as serfs, and undesirables purged), and outlawing making a white cishet man feel bad about anything, but I fear it'd be taken seriously
Donald Trump has used up almost all of the United States’ long-range missiles to increase all of the United States’ gas prices. He’s smart that way.
My "favorite" is ever-changing, but I keep coming back to ultramafics. A recent find is a orthopyroxenite cumulate from the Josephine Ophiolite, SW Oregon, barely this side of the OR-CA border. Not only a gorgeous sparkly black, but amazing to think about the envt: 5 Km under a spreading ridge.
Feeling a bit melancholy today. Tell me about your favorite rock. Can be your favorite rock type, rock formation, or even a very specific hunk of rock. I will also accept minerals. Photos welcome.

And obviously, the most effective way to do that is to keep cutting geology programs at unis across the country.
“That event will include representatives from all 14 accredited US mining schools, and aims to raise awareness of mining as a career path while highlighting the need for more students to enter the field, the source said.” 😐
This is Oregon's worst fire season in history by acres burned, and we have 2 months of fire season (to the extent that such a thing still exists) to go. There will be more Spokanes, more Warm Springs, before it's done. The sounds that I crave now are running water, rain on the roof, frogsong.
Smoke blankets the Pacific Northwest this morning and afternoon.

Seeing the rim of Crater Lake plunge so steeply into the water always stuns me. We lucked out in June because the lake had no wind, which reflected the rim. Crater Lake National Park, Oregon #nationalparks #lakes #volcanoes #Oregon #reflections #CraterLake
for personal reasons i dislike how the discourse has swung from "climate scientists are hysterical alarmists" to "climate scientists failed to warn us how bad it would be" without stopping at "thank you, you were right, here's a gift basket"
It’s important to understand that when 1.2 million Americans are dying from a disease, any government action is excessive and tyrannical, but if a dozen trans women want to play soccer no government action can go far enough
Now I gotta go delete my repost. Oh well.
AI rubbish video of an object hitting the Moon: - funny how this is surfacing around the time that the SpaceX rocket is going to slam into the Moon - funny how there is absolutely no attribution - funny how astronomers are not talking about this - funny how that's not how physics works (at all)
My life is consistently more complicated than the average person's, mostly because I consistently make worse decisions than they do
Unfortunately, it is likely that smoke from the fires in Washington and Oregon get pulled westward over the Pacific Ocean, down the coast and toward the Bay Area by Wednesday. Other parts of Northern California, like Tahoe, could get smoke as early as Tuesday.
And the bubonic (AKA black) plague was developed by East Asian genetic engineers to proactively defeat the west. Hence the well-known phrase, "We've always been at war with East Asia."

In need of a scathing review of the state of science in 1830 England? Charles Babbage has you covered! He was NOT impressed by how academic societies catered to the rich & wasted money on vanity projects, so he wrote a book about it. Also: possibly Bilbo Baggins. www.gutenberg.org/files/1216/1...
I don’t get a lot of opportunity to share the peacock-turkey battle photo I took last year, it looked like a dinosaur showdown:
Here’s a zoomed-in shot of the summit and Columbia crest glacier. Note how carved the mountain is by erosion. It’s been about 2,000yrs since the mountain has seen a voluminous eruptive period, so erosion has outpaced the mountain’s building.
