NEW: An open letter in solidarity with Iran’s political prisoners drew vitriolic condemnation from parts of the anti-imperialist left — but the criticisms are short-sighted and misplaced, argues Yassin al-Haj Saleh, a former political prisoner in Syria, for @newlinesmag.bsky.social

The Attacks on an Open Letter to Iran’s Political Prisoners Are Misguided

Why should the victims of massacres be expected to stand beside their executioners in the name of anti-imperial resistance?

No depths to which Prashad can sink at this point in the defense of regimes that have killed thousands but it’s telling how he acts to try and delegitimize the letter, knowing it could have sway—classic tactic in the defense of regimes with questionable human rights records

"Prashad Again Leaps to Defense of Mass Murderers in Effort to Delegitimize Open Letter on Iranian Political Prisoners" by @brianhioe.bsky.social

Anti-imperialism should mean solidarity with peoples, not loyalty to anti-Western states. @KamranMatin writes on how the Iran war has exposed the contradictions of a left that condemns U.S.-Israeli aggression while excusing the Islamic Republic’s repression. theamargi.com/posts/the-ir...

The Iran war and the contradictions of anti-imperialism

The Iran war has exposed deep divisions on the global left. A small minority condemns both the U.S.-Israeli assault as an act of imperial aggression and the Iranian state as a repressive capitalist…

For example, this flew under the radar at the time but the reason American mines ended up in a Iranian village was because we were trying to prevent the movement of mobile launchers rather than try and take them out directly

The US appears to have deployed the Gator Scatterable Mine system over Kafari, a village near Shiraz, in southern Iran overnight. At least two people were killed according to local reports. www.bellingcat.com/news/2026/03...

An amazing long read by Matt Broomfield about the #Kurds from #Iran, based in Kurdistan in Iraq, whom Israel/US try to exploit in their war against Iran. Kurdish leaders know that any further escalation will hurt them the most. They wage their own struggle. www.truthdig.com/articles/kur...

The Kurds in the Crossfire of the U.S.-Israeli War Against Iran

The Kurds are on the front lines of the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran. After their betrayal in Syria, can they survive another fight?

Since March 18, 2026, Iranian authorities have executed at least 28 people on politically motivated charges. Scores of imprisoned protesters remain at risk of arbitrary and secret executions. Learn more:

Seeing right-wingers attack him is annoying but the idea that anybody left of Pinochet would ever go to bat for Hasan Piker is laughable at best. Dude is a passionate Putin supporter and genocide fanatic. His bleating in support of the Russian genocide of Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians should

probably give folks pause about listening to anything he says. But it won't. Just like it didn't with Glenn Greenwald or Aaron Mate or Max Blumenthal or Rania Khalek or Tulsi Gabbard or Butter Goblin or any of the other scumbag fascists with a red flag and a shit-eating grifter grin.

The UAE, like Israel, is a state that sees itself as outside the rules and also would love a destabilizing war against Iran- as long as the US is the one doing most of the fighting.

#⃣ It's now the 56th day of #Iran's internet blackout, with international connectivity severed for over 1320 hours. The measure, the longest recorded national internet shutdown in a connected society, continues while conditions deteriorate amid warfare and reported executions.

Graph from NetBlocks showing network connectivity in Iran from 24 February 2026 to 24 April 2026. The y-axis represents normalized connectivity, ranging from 0% to 100%, and the x-axis represents the dates. The green line representing Iran's connectivity is high through the initial time period, with a sharp drop on the morning of 28 February. The continued drop in connectivity aligns with a nation-scale internet blackout imposed by authorities after joint military strikes by the US and Israel. A brief restoration was observed on 18 March. The minimum and current connectivity levels are indicated as 1% and 1%, respectively. The chart has a dark background with a red horizontal arrow labeled 'SHUTDOWN' indicating the disruption period, and the NetBlocks logo in the lower left corner with the Mapping Internet Freedom slogan.

Earlier this week Israel carried out a “triple tap,” killing three medical workers and wounding six in Lebanon. Triple tap strikes were/are not even standard practice of the Russians, who were notorious for perfecting the “double tap” strike in Syria and then adopting the practice in Ukraine. (1)

The US-Iran ceasefire brought a pause for some. For Iranian Kurds in Iraqi Kurdistan, it did not. As strikes resumed, Kurdish camps and families remained exposed to pressure, displacement and loss. ✍️ Asso Hassan Zadeh

No matter what some people on here seem to think, it is in fact entirely possible to oppose all US and Israeli military actions in Iran, without pretending that this somehow makes the Iranian government into the good guys. They did in fact murder tens of thousands of innocent civilian protesters.

People in Iran have lived under digital darkness for 1000 hours. Access to the internet is a basic human right and indispensable in times of conflict. Authorities must immediately restore internet access.
