Testing a potentially unpopular opinion that I'm not sure the dev industry is ready for: Unless you're shipping something like nuclear safety code, you probably don't need a human reviewer for your PRs.

In my audits, reading the Performance profile is where people get stuck: the flame chart and waterfall look like noise at first I built an interactive guide to make them click, every figure is interactive, plus LCP, CLS, INP and the Insights panel perf.reviews/profile-guide #WebPerf #DevTools

Reading a Performance Profile: Field Guide

An interactive field guide to the Chrome DevTools Performance panel: waterfall, flame chart, LCP, CLS, INP, and the Insights panel.

i want to do a little ✨ ama about atproto ✨ in this thread. no question is too simple if you’ve been curious about atproto but don’t know much (anything?) about it, ask any question and i’ll try to explain it in my own words. (+ would love to hear from friends who aren’t very active on bsky)

i want to spread the word about atproto. if you’re running a podcast, i’d be happy to hop in to talk about it. i understand it decently well and can explain it without much jargon. it’s one of the most interesting developments in the last 30 years of web, and i can defend that. please dm to set up!

this is a new tool, and we are still learning how to wield it. some good points about tutoring here. i'm using a third-party harness with a simple tutor skill that directs the agent to give hints, ask guiding questions, name patterns, and avoid full solutions unless explicitly requested.

I wrote a new post on what we need to keep human and what to hand over to AI, with forays into experiments in education, consulting, and the the latest controversy over literary prizes. www.oneusefulthing.org/p/choosing-t...

TWO ✌️ days until the next at://seattle! Just like last time, we'll save some space for lightning talks to chat up atproto things you're working on/want to work on. Bring your ideas, find folks to collab with, and get started on those brilliant projects marinating in your brain 🧠⚡

The most exciting thing about next week's at://seattle event is the infinite supply of pizza from @internetstudio.bsky.social. The second most exciting thing? Bluesky CTO @pfrazee.com be joining us to talk about some of the work the team has been up to! 🦋 RSVP in the link below 👇

The hiring landscape for senior leaders in tech is interesting these days. I’ve heard that there is little interest in people management skills anymore as companies either want you as a “senior IC” or to help with AI transformation not org leadership Career development is no longer a thing.

This post highlights the challenges facing AI adoption 1. Productivity gains vary wildly based on how teams use the same tools. 2. Faster coding matters less if every process still assumes features take two weeks, not two days. 3. Token costs will rise once vendors stop subsidizing adoption.

When everyone has AI and the company still learns nothing

Are people using AI, or is the organization learning from it? What changed because we spent those tokens? And who moves discoveries from individuals to teams to organizational capabilities?

it’s not the same kind of “achievement” as in “you struggled through this problem and deeply understand it” but isn’t it fine to decouple these things? for collective knowledge, it’s getting the result that matters. for individual knowledge it’s sort of like it’s possible to be a “math pm” now
