Bellingcat has been monitoring student protests in India. Police initially denied reports protesters were met with violence at a July 20 march, although later acknowledged injuries to protesters and officers. Social media videos showed tear gas deployed and batons used by police against protestors.

My final presentation of #SMSociety Day 3 was on The Synthetic Self for our panel on Algorithmic Childhood co-convened with & chaired by Jessica, & Harry as discussant. I shared progress on my conceptualisation: The Synthetic Self, & what it means for Digital Literacy & Intimacies in the age of AI.

My 2nd presentation of #SMSociety was on Day 2 on my collaborative multi-country project, 'Hacking HigherEd' with Swatantra & Kealeboga in the Digital Education session chaired by Harry; we were in excellent company in this session! Our work examines policies across 3 countries...(1/2)

I want people to understand the full impact of the devastation that First Nations in Canada are facing. It's NOT just that people and wildlife are losing their homes...it's the history that is being lost for generations to come.

Netflix's Q2 report is perhaps the most interesting it has issued in years, in large part because the issue of engagement is now becoming the main driver of the share price. This problem has been growing for a while and now Nflix is making it worse by moving goalposts. (1)

Just wrapped up a great few days in Glasgow for #SMSociety. Really enjoyed learning about the latest research in this space and hearing from researchers across the globe who are pushing our knowledge of social media's impact on the world forward. Major thanks to the organisers, what an event!

What an incredible Social Media & Society #SMSociety 2026 conference! My highlights were: 1. Essi Holopainen talk about challenging the notion of 'passive' use of social media by young people and the many practices they do to support each other's mental health. ->
