RIP Louisa Gag, a transit planner who dedicated her career to making Boston’s streets safer for cyclists & pedestrians. She was killed while biking to work on July 9, 2026. Street safety improvements shouldn’t be delayed, watered down, or treated as a political inconvenience. Safe streets now!!

Watching people buy massive off-road utility vehicles for grocery runs and then have a complete meltdown when the geometry of a standard parking lot doesn't accommodate them is incredible.

Older drivers are uniquely dangerous to others, killing at higher rates than new teen drivers. We have to make it so seniors can live independent, and socially-integrated lives without driving. Transit-oriented multi-use development is good for climate, good for safety

NHTSA data from 2022. Bar chart by 5-year age brackets. Per 100 Million miles traveled. Young drivers crash most often, but older drivers kill at higher rates, with rates rising at 70-74 and sharply increasing at 80-84.

This piece is frustrating. The bulk of it is spent on the debate around licensing with a brief mention at the end of a major issue: Many older drivers live in areas without transportation options. Stricter licensing and more road tests are needed, but we also need to address car dependency.
