“We have a cult of radicalized billionaires who believe it is their destiny to rule the 21st century…They know our system is for sale…not only in San Francisco but in Washington.” Read @esksf.bsky.social on how tech oligarchs bought San Francisco. missionlocal.org/2026/09/san-...

San Francisco's wealthiest have unprecedented control of city politics

Our city fathers (if you like them) or oligarchs (if you don’t) have never been richer, more brazen or faced weaker opposition

I have blamed The agents That hacked Your website And which You probably Reasonably thought I controlled Forgive me I am rich And unaccustomed To taking responsibility

Listen, I just think it's weird that the same people who are saying they're worried that AI is going to wipe out humanity are also eager for military contracts that will give AI control of weapons.

DoorDash spent $1.4M trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5M enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.

DoorDash Spent $1.4 Million Trying to Stop Mamdani From Becoming Mayor. Now We Know Why.

In a wage-theft settlement, DoorDash now has to pay its workers around 100 times what it spent trying to beat Zohran Mam

Saw a woman on TikTok who said she quit corporate at age 46 to become a beekeeper because “I would literally rather get stung by 10,000 bees than write ‘per my last email’ again” and you know what? I respect that

whenever i hear some variation on "but what if trump does X or Y or Z" i think of this ulysses s. grant remark to a subordinate during the wilderness campaign.

i hate that i can’t enjoy cute animal videos without wondering if they’re AI. i’m getting better at checking, but damn, way to ruin one of the few good things on the internet.

anyway back to the original post, a lot of people in tech went into it because they wanted to make tech for people and right now they’re making tech for tech that they see themselves eventually being replaced by. it feels bad!

Very quick and dirty Jev test for hiring bias. One resume for a Wall Street job; asked whether the applicant should get a first-round interview. 76 evaluations, changing only the first name. 19 of each: White-associated men/women, Black-associated men/women. console.typesafe.ai/playground?s...

Somehow Jev has not yet triggered much discussion of cheap, low-latency, general-purpose classification as infrastructure for targeted oppression.

Two of the outdoor cats have bonded. I think it’s because they kept meeting up in our yard for food. Just goes to show you, you gotta get off the apps and put yourself out there

The fact that Musk himself is sponsoring so many of the anti-trans ads this cycle presents a pretty golden opportunity for Dems to point out that of course the guy who literally wants to build a gas-powered data center in your backyard wants this election to be about trans people.

“When Obama said he supported civil unions in the run-up to the 2008 and 2012 elections, he was offering gay people a slower pace of progress. When Democrats today triangulate on transgender rights, they are offering us a slower pace of decline.”

When Democrats attempt to triangulate on trans rights, it's my sense that many liberals and people in politics don't understand why many trans people are so upset. I wrote about the differences between then and now, what trans people have lost, and what we still stand to lose

“A lot of them don’t believe that their fight is partisan, and it’s not.” Yes it is. MAHA is overwhelmingly a right-wing movement with right-wing goals. The reason they make “progressive” arguments is to trick mainstream figures into working with them — exactly as AOC seems to be doing.

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:

Handwritten notecard. Prompt at the top asks: What object was most devastating for you to lose, and how have you been coping? Answer below: Dentures. Were thrown away and coping isn't somthing I can do. It’s made me feel ugly, unworthy, can’t go get a job with no teeth. So how can get off the streets until another pair can be made?

the right wing's normalization of the phrase "biological sex" as being completely synonymous with assigned sex at birth has done such irreparable harm not only to trans people but also to most people's awareness of how sex differentiation occurs in homo sapiens at a fundamental level

It’s mind-blowing that we have literal white nationalists in the White House carrying out unfathomably cruel, abusive, white nationalist policies, and the punditariat has spent the last two weeks debating if some people were too intemperate after a Black man was murdered by cops six years ago.
