“Is casting a dark-skinned Black woman as Helen of Troy actually racist,” a relatively short Reddit thread never closed by mods, most everyone thinks it’s stupid and it peters out quickly

I’ve surprisingly managed to convince at least a small handful of leftists to admit President Bernie wouldn’t have passed M4A. They do this motte and bailey thing where they say it still matters that he would have “pushed” for it

As far as I can tell based on modern accounts, 90% of peoples' college experience today is essentially paying a lot of money to use Tik Tok and ChatGPT in a private room that isn't in their parents' house.

At that point it was clear, whether he beat Collins or not, or whether more bad stuff eventually came out or not, that this guy was always going to be a massive drag on the Democrat's brand and unfortunately I think we're not done paying the price.

I think people who confidently said he should drop out after the tattoo thing on the basis of “more stuff is gonna cone out” probably have the most politics ball knowledge even if you disagree w them on other big things.

Chekhov's gun is a narrative principle emphasizing that every element in a story should be necessary, while irrelevant elements should be removed. For example, if a gun is included in a story, there must be a reason for it, such as being fired at some later point. The principle that all elements mus

Many of the characteristics that make feral hogs a formidable invasive pest could make them an ideal super-spreader if screwworms take hold in the population.

So ya Trump never faced any repercussions for stonewalling on the Epstein files and 'Epstein Class' has become a generalized term which most people using it would not even include him as part of.

There's a little black cat that's been lounging on our back porch. We put some water out for him and now he's firmly designated our house as his property. He will not rest until he's sleeping on our bed

The working class aesthetics thing doesn't even seem to work. "They're a bunch of dumb chuds so of course they want to vote for a dumb chud!" Elites think working class people are too dumb to conceptualize someone running the country who isn't like them.

Emphasizing "working class" issues is seen as something noble by the broader left, but it actually represents a dismissive attitude. They think working class people are too dumb to care about any political issues not related to their jobs.

There's this whole constellation of people who owe their careers to the endless attention and affirmation you can receive complaining about The Democratic Establishment. But there are, it turns out, much worse things in politics than The Democratic Establishment

Yeah I once talked myself down about AI with this realization. AI can review 10k pages of documents and get some wrong conclusions but it may be better than 10 humans doing that. And you review the AI’s work the same way you would the humans’ work.

we constantly rely on unreliable tools (some of them in meat suits and with hair) by adding compensating controls around their actions so the outputs are bounded and, while not deterministic, predictable in the real world, this is normal. but now *you* have to look at it, and some people hate that

People are mad at the Democrats because they haven’t done enough to fight Trump, which is why they’re voting for DSA members who believe the real enemy is the capitalist Epstein Class establishment in which Trump is just a visiting side character.

There's an important principle where if there are multiple plausible explanations for someone's behavior, you don't assume the worst explanation. This is a critical underpinning of modern law and the functionality of a liberal society and it's being increasingly lost due to social media.

Throw it on the growing pile of evidence that "working class" messaging and aesthetics does not appeal to the working class. It actually appeals to upper class people.

A disproportionate amount of all this garbage originates from KIippenstein. He'll laugh at a 78 year old Democrat slightly tripping on stairs and then whenever Trump shits his pants on camera or slurs out "aughallualalehh" he'll ignore that and post a clip of him praising Mamdani or something.

In many ways this is my frontal attack on the “Smoothgroins” essay. It’s my counter-argument to the idea that the dirtbag approach is somehow more effective or more authentic.

We need huge, bold, structural change. We're tired of half-assed solutions that do nothing to address the root causes of problems. We're throwing incrementalism out the window. We are doing...um, let's see. Right. We're freezing rent for a subset of the population.
