Inflation over the last year has been 3.5%. It’s hard to see how this sentiment can be explained by any “real” economic trend. It appears to be ambient political rhetoric about “affordability” and “grocery costs” filtering over and distorting people’s very grasp on reality.

This is obviously true but the Dylan Mulvaney bud light incident, which resulted in Bud Light completely caving to bigots, illustrates that there is a profound reactionary wave about this that just needs some kind of policy facade

Ya have ~same odds of randomly picking someone on the street who shares the exact birthday, hour & gender as your US kid does facing this situation.

Okay, but: we can measure directly how many people are poor, and how poor they are. No one expects poor people to love the economy, but if the number of poor people decreases, (and it has, basically) you’d expect the number of people unhappy about the economy to go down. Instead, it went up. WAY up.

Is it a mystery? The poor people are still poor. They know this. They don’t think the economy is working because it totally isn’t working for them. They have three jobs and can barely afford food and a terrible apartment.
I think the problem is that many Americans know Canadians, have a sense of the culture. This stuff is just too absurd.
