the crypto industry descended on Minnesota and set a truly astonishing pile of money on fire
Football Managers as political types: - Mourinho is a right-wing populist - Bielsa is a left-wing populist - De Zerbi is the Five Star movement - David Moyes is a Gordon Brown style social democrat - Brandon Rogers is a neoliberal New Democrat/Labour - Arteta is a lib centrist like Macron
It’s ironic that the America First movement will be responsible for ending American hegemony.
Kind of remarkable that so much of the discourse is about the dangers of extremism in the Democratic Party.
GOP House Leadership: Speaker: Mike "I Run the Protection Program" Johnson Majority Leader: Steve "David Duke Without the Baggage" Scalise Majority Whip: Tom "I'm done being even the least bit careful. Somalis don't assimilate....they should go the hell back to where they came from" Emmer
Centrist liberals aren’t freaking out because they’re concerned the left will lose to MAGA. Centrist liberals are freaking out because they’re concerned the left will become more powerful than them within the left-liberal coalition.
I've been saying this. if the Very Serious Centrists are getting dogwalked by DSA radicals with almost no money, they have no business claiming to be the most electable ones
Incredible that the center-left habitually chides progressives for forgetting the "ancient wisdom" of politics and then watches as they're beaten by the most basic organizing: campaigning in public, finding volunteers, canvassing. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/10/u...
thinking about what one trillion dollars of investment in clean energy would look like and getting so mad i need to lie down with the lights off
The US hyperscalers have now signed up for about $1tn of lease commitments that don't appear in their financial data (and are on the hook for another $1tn of future purchase commitments). www.ft.com/content/a0a0...
Why is this allowed to be said in America without any accountability? Why are even Democrats so quiet about this?
The ADL has a website dedicated to attacking Mamdani staffers—including my friend Waleed Shahid. The ADL is applying a level of scrutiny to him they aren’t applying to literal neo-Nazis working in the federal government. Waleed has a Jewish wife and child. The ADL is a disgrace.

We expect the Mamdani administration to uphold a simple, non-negotiable standard: no one with a history of antisemitism or hostility toward Jews, Zionists, Israelis or Jewish institutions should be ap...

Shopping for health insurance is such a terrible experience: you guess what kinds of health care you’re going to need in the upcoming year, pay at least a few hundred dollars each month for insurance--and then get charged even more based on how well you guessed. We need Medicare for All.
“Orange man bad” is the most consistently correct take in U.S. politics for the past decade. The people who disagreed that Trump is a fascist profoundly misunderstood politics and should have much, much more humility going forward.
This line from Ross Douthat’s final NYT column is something you see all the time from the soft-MAGA right. Sure, Trump’s *most* alarmist critics weren’t correct, but that’s basically true of every president. Trump’s *median* critic did in fact predict his presidency pretty accurately.
The WNBA Player’s Association issued an excellent (imo) statement yesterday, stressing the league’s values and stating that they won’t be used as political pawns. The league and its individual teams might want to reach out to whoever is doing comms for the WNBPA. Just sayin.
I’m telling you, corruption is what‘s pissing off most normies flocking to the data center resistance. this kind of thing is really activating
the city that arrested the person for clapping during a data center meeting has decided to take its town halls virtual and eliminate public comments all together
Centrist orgs like Third Way aren't afraid that a progressive will lose the general in 2028. They're afraid that they'll win www.nytimes.com/2026/08/06/u...
It's time to put working people before Big Tech and bring our money home to invest in housing and healthcare, not war. My opponent Tom Barrett has voted again and again to fund Trump's war in Iran and hand tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy. We need to take care of our neighbors first.
Journalism is a public good. It needs to be publicly funded, for the same reasons that health care needs to be publicly funded. The privatization of public information has created a true crisis. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/paying-for...

It’s insane that Trump’s personal attorney is actively helping him supress evidence of child sex abuse—and a majority of U.S. Senators are considering making him the Attorney General.
NEW: Todd Blanche blew the deadline to respond to my lawsuit. Now, he wants the court to forgive his "excusable neglect." Stay tuned for the latest episode on my YouTube channel breaking down the latest filings, including my own motion to compel Blanche to answer my complaint.
It’s really interesting that Trump and the right have started talking about how Democrats will enact structural democracy reform if they win power. Let’s hope he’s right!
Trump on El-Sayed: "If he succeeds, the Dumocrats will gain 4 Senators, 8 Congressmen, many Electoral and Popular Votes, a stacked Supreme Court with 23 Justices, and I will be, sadly, despite the great job we are doing, the last Republican President!"
Hey look, it’s the Nazis' favorite Jew deciding on who gets to be Jewish. Cool story Ben!
Ben Shapiro: Sen. Bernie Sanders is “not actually” Jewish and comedian Jon Stewart is “as Jewish as a ham sandwich”
One of my least favorite trends in US politics: how we all feel the need to mediate everything through the lens of “electability.” Every faction wants to claim their preferred ideological agenda is likely to win more votes. The truth is that voters are weird and elections are pretty random.

A central part of why it seems like powerful, rich people live in a consequence-free world is that the social incentives to hold them to account have withered. www.ctinsider.com/columnist/ar... 𝟏𝟐-𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞-𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬
This is a glorified single-source interview with the head of Third Way. It quotes far more moderates saying they support the progressive candidates in the general election. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/06/u...
Right-wing populism is always based on identifying real problems and proposing to make things much, much worse. Liberals tend to suggest the existing institutions can fix the problems through normal means. The problem is: during a crisis of legitimacy, people don’t trust the institutions.
After all the half baked hot take “analysis” of voting in the MI primary, I see that AES won Scholten's district by over 20 points and Stevens dominated Rashida Tlaib's district. I’m sorry but none of these internet analysts know what tf is going on (neither do I), have some epistemic humility
Wait… who is making this political? David Ellison, you need a new crisis management team. You are doing untold irreparable harm to the Paramount Brand.
media when maga wins an election: we must travel the country and speak to these voters and extend empathy to them and give credence to their bigotry and false beliefs media when the left wins an election: is this the end of the american experiment
El-Sayed: "My commitment to Jewish safety is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters. Because if there is one question of political philosophy that ought to animate us all, it's what would we do if we treated all our kids like they were all of our kids?"
