How can you describe what isn’t there? ‘Nothing has a name’ is a song that introduces some of the words we use for the concept of zero. Created by Tappy Math(s) to support children aged 3 to 6 in early mathematical thinking.

For this year's MathsJam UK Gathering, the early-bird cutoff is a number of tickets - the first 101 people to book will get a discount, so don't miss out! The Graph of Doom is already looking quite steep, and more than half the early-bird spaces are gone already...

A graph showing bookings for MathsJam 2026. The graph has a line for 'Attending' which goes up steeply from 0 at -160 days to just over 50 at -135 days, and a line for 'Remote' that's still fairly low. There is a faint diagonal line which the 'Attending' line is currently above.

What happens when mathematics education research meets music, animation and co-design? The Tappy Math(s) project brings together educators, researchers, musicians and animators to create free, research-informed resources for children aged 3 to 6.

Can songs help young children engage with mathematical ideas? The Tappy Math(s) project brings together educators, researchers, musicians and animators to create free, research-informed resources for children aged 3–6. Stay tuned for an exciting announcement in the next few days! 🎶 #EarlyYears

I'll be at @mathsworld.com on Tuesday 26th May for another 'MathsWorld Lates' event - talking (and singing - fair warning) about the *Sound of Silence*. Some the maths of music and why it's a fun & messy interaction between artistic & mathematical intuition. mathsworld.com/events/Sound...

MathsWorld is an interactive discovery centre in London with innovative hands-on exhibits that explore the beauty, wonder, and everyday relevance of mathematics for visitors of all ages.

A story about coordinate systems, teenagers, and comedian parents: I went to see the London Symphonic Rock Orchestra with my 14 year old at the weekend. (They were incredible. If you have the opportunity to see them, you should go.)

And it shows some obvious ways in which TV shows can do harm - both to individuals, many of whom were hoping this would finally 'prove' they were smart, and to society, when the myths are upheld by this kind of lazy and thoughtless design.
