What is happening is not that AI-generated cultural goods are replacing human-made cultural goods; what is happening is that capital is flowing out of the production of cultural goods *entirely,* making us all poorer for it.

It really doesn't make sense to attribute those job losses to AI-the-technology, because if that were the case we'd be observing AI outputs displacing conventional entertainment products, and they're clearly not. Rather, the impact of AI is that AI-the-business is crowding out other investment.

Hollywood has suffered the most in the AI era—with the movie & TV industry losing more than 100k jobs, nearly one-third of the sector’s total employment, over the last four years. Total employment in video production is approaching the fthe lowest levels in 30 years

yes, *I LIVE IN A BUBBLE* ever since I was assaulted by these two individuals, so SORRY if I don't hear every song on the radio my family is still seeking justice on my behalf

thinking about this again today, and not even in the context of procgen. The thing about systems design is that it's so easy to get excited about making little sandboxes for yourself that you forget the player needs insight into it, lest it simply appear the same as complete randomness.

there's a great interview with a developer on Civ where they said, paraphrased, "a feature should never be the computer having fun instead of the player" and I think about this every time I'm working on procgen. It's often a strong argument to expose more of what you're doing.

The Delinquent and the Transfer Student volume 2 is out now! I adore this series, and lettering it was a huge challenge. I'm incredibly proud of the results, and wake to display some comparisons of the Japanese and English lettering. Here are some, with more in the thread below!

The Vancouver croissant crawl is on and one of the participants (Mon Paris Patisserie) has an ai image, which I criticized firmly and politely and offered other options of what they could have done instead and now the owners husband is writing essays attacking me on LinkedIn! It’s super weird!

not sure why the iced coffee job interview thing is blowing up bc I saw that "news" days ago but uh. here. sure. the takes: * this is social media scraping in lieu of reporting, the worst form of modern journalism * generation war shit is tedious * recruiters have the worst opinions in existence

anatomy of a roblox game: 1. take a popular fad genre. survival horror multiplayer, life sim. whatever. 2. Take between 1 and 10 game mechanics from any games that have sold over 100,000 copies on steam in the last 5 years. Reproduce them but worse. 3. Festoon with real money transactions Done!

I saw this screenshot going around, found this detail charming, looked more into the game (I've never played a Silent Hill) & decided to buy it. Btw these are the "unimportant" background assets AI idiots think AI should be used for

Screenshot of a Twitter post by Val / @shegoingtogloat - it's a Silent Hill screenshot showing a close up of a cork board. On it, a paper says "Welcome to Shorefront Family Clinic" in a classic wiggly 3D font style. The tweet text is: Is this a Silent Hill asset made using PowerPoint lol"
