My two cents on the APSR replication debate is that the lesson to learn is that the PAP is to our work what the VAR is to football: we don't quite like it, but we recognize its value when we miss it.

It has become common for those who embody the traits of a stigmatized category to define it—in ways that conveniently exclude them.Antisemites, for example, claim authority to decide who is antisemitic; today, far-right supporters use the same strategy, defining ‘far-right’ to exempt their own views.
Radical-right parties are often linked to the “left-behind”. But supporting them when stigma is strong is costly. So who is willing to pay that cost early on, before it’s normalized? In my new WP, I argue that breaking political norms is socially stratified. 🧵👇
