This was my argument about what Disney capitalized on in the 50s/60s. In a time steeped in atomic threats and suspicion and fear and constant uncertainty, Disney gave people a specific villain who would be vanquished by the end so good could triumph because he knew people needed a pure escape.

I truly feel for kids growing up now who will have to unlearn using AI, but if you've been writing for more than 2 years it is the easiest thing in the world to just Keep Doing The Thing You Did and ignore AI tools!! It makes me feel crazy that people act like this isn't the case!!!

it's actually sad as hell to use AI for research when research is the fun part. you can just email people and call them on the phone and ask them questions about the thing that they have expertise in. you can read documents & learn cool shit. ok now i'm just talking about how being a reporter is fun

New from 404 Media: Google Earth has introduced an AI feature that lets anyone fabricate completely bullshit satellite images. In our own tests, we added a “bomb blast and crater” to an area of Los Angeles. This is a misinformation time bomb, will 100% be abused www.404media.co/google-earth...

find whatever thing you like in the world that is sustained by volunteers, go find the leader and ask "what can I do to help?" and then start doing the helping, in-person, regularly, when you can and as reliably as you can. boom, no longer lonely.

anyway, the "male loneliness epidemic" is a skill issue. There are *so many* volunteer needs in every city, every community. It's staggering. Every park, trail, forest and pond has a "friends group" that needs labor and bodies. Every hospital and retirement home, every club and agency.

Folks who teach composition: due to weird schedule vagaries (with maternity leave!), I haven't taught comp since the AI landscape was *far* more rudimentary 2 years ago. I've obviously been researching this a lot, BUT - any advice on here about what approaches you've found to adapt most effectively?
