Democracy is like exercise. You can't do it once every four years and complain when you don't see results. Pro-edit button. "Soros-backed." He/him. Linktree.com/joekatz45.

The Nazi comparisons are useful, but the Trump instinct to address negative outcomes by firing and silencing anyone on their team foolish enough to report them always makes me think of Mao and the Great Famine.

The cloture vote on Bove was 50-48 last Thursday, all voting Dems plus Collins/Murkowski were nos. Seems quite likely he'll be confirmed this week. But since that was two whistleblowers ago, probably worth anyone with a Republican senator making one more call.

Emil Bove's Corruption, Abuse of Power Disqualify Him for A Federal Judgeship

A third whistleblower has struck Emil Bove

Underreported trade news of the day is that Trump announced that the 15% tariffs on the EU would include pharmaceuticals that have thus far been exempt from tariffs If tariffs on pharma go up 15% this week it'd be a *massive* escalation of the trade war—the US imports $175B/yr of them from the EU

a graph of US pharma imports by country, which are $175B/yr from the EU

You can either read today's news as a series of distractions-- the poor venous return is a distraction from bove which is a distraction from Epstein which is the distraction tariffs which is a distraction from whatever -- or you can read it as shit is falling apart. I'm an eternal optimist.

the wall street journal says trump's letter was part of the department of justice's review of the charges against epstein and maxwell. emil bove was involved in doj's review of those files this year. today republicans on the judiciary committee halted debate to advance bove to a lifetime judgeship

"Ray, who is in his late 20s, was born in a refugee camp in Nepal and came to the U.S. as a kid. He was recently deported to Bhutan — where he had never lived in and where his family faced persecution. Within 24 hours of his arrival, Ray said Bhutanese authorities ordered him to leave."

A refugee deported to Bhutan by the U.S. finds himself stranded and stateless

Once deported to Bhutan, some Nepali-speaking Bhutanese refugees say they are told to leave. Many have since disappeared, while others are homeless and stateless, according to immigration advocates.

Today is the 30th anniversary of the Day that Newsweek Discovered Bisexuality. To mark the occasion, I’m going to tell you all a little story. 1/

The cover image of the Winter 1996 issue of "Anything That Moves: The Magazine for the Bisexual At Large, Covering Gender and Sexuality Prix Fixe to A La Carte". There are three people on the cover standing side by side -- a Black woman with short spiky hair and dark-rimmed glasses, a white or Latina woman with short dark hair wearing a jacket and tie, and a white man with a thin face and a shaggy blond haircut wearing a dark vest. They are holding up the Newsweek "Bisexuality" issue (which also has three people standing side by side on the cover) and looking at it with puzzled and skeptical expressions.

Cousin: well, we forgot the chicken. But thank you for getting the eggs! Me: hey, now we know what came first! Everyone: *polite chuckles* My genius is unappreciated in my own time.

"Companies that benefit from keeping protections weak for tenants have billions of [lobbying] dollars ... That same machine mobilizes at the drop of a hat to pump millions into elections – even in districts during the legislative process – to scare and intimidate policymakers into voting their way."
