Great piece by Maria Butler on the social impact of popular and commercial fiction. Really looking forward to reading her book, which is due out next week!

This summer, #BCIrishStudies hosted Burns Summer Fellow Christina Morin from the University of Limerick. Morin explored holdings at the Burns Library for her current project, Irish Gothic in the Global 19th Century. @burnslibrary.bsky.social @drtinamorin.bsky.social @unioflimerick.bsky.social
I’m back at my desk this morning & ignoring my email inbox in favour of this beautiful book, The Edinburgh Companion to Irish Literature and Periodical Culture, edited by @elkedhoker.bsky.social & Phyllis Boumans. I’m delighted to have an essay here on 1830s Irish gothic magazine fiction.
In preparation for research leave this coming year, I’m refurbing the home office and have just bought myself an Edwardian ladies’ writing desk. It is stunning! Surely writing at something so beautiful will help me finish my book!?
