I made a game in a week. It's a 30-minute body horror concept about ignoring the call of identity and the fear of pursuing transness in a mature marriage. marinmmiller.itch.io/two-swans

anyway shout out to Ghost Trick fans for literally never spoiling that fucking amazing game
The most telling thing ever is this arbitrary time period nonsense ends with "oh and nobody reads books so, they get almost two years, but NOT two full years because that would be ridiculous."
Spoilers should be cognizant of spoiling around the immediate publication (stratified by media type), weeks for TV, months for movies, a year and a half for books...imo.
me: haha that one part of Kabuto's theme song where the singer goes "moving fast" is so random lol my brain: (years later) it's because he moves fast me:

Honestly, I kind of disagree. Culturally we're shifting towards the TikTok attitude of "I am filming the movie's highlights and posting them on social media to get views" If anything we're entering an era where it's almost impossible to avoid spoilers as a result of that attitude specifically.
I would say it is an increase, in the sense that there is a noticeable shift, culturally, in what people consider a spoiler and how strongly people react when what they feel to be a spoiler is breached. They are individuals, but individuals are influenced by cultural expectations.
Spoiler culture and the discouragement from revealing spoilers has been a thing *forever* And pretending it's recent is ridiculous.
When I was growing up , if you missed the episode of a broadcast yeah , the way like 628 months before there was a rebroadcast during summer or if you were lucky , they would do a two by 2 for the part one and part two. We never had any expectations of not being spoiled on anything.
I guess I honestly don't understand how anyone could spoil a movie/show/book even accidentally and have it upset someone and then the person who gave the spoiler be like "... this is all their fault."
Gonna get ahead of things now and say I can't stream today either. Video is taking way more work than I expected and I need to spend today focused on that.
It's media. If you think it's unfair someone who hasn't watched a movie doesn't wanna hear about it, that's way more your issue than theirs.
And some of these\nPeople seem to be going out of their way , not to watch the thing they don't want to be spoiled about for months. Like, at some point, the responsibility is on the ones that want to be spoiler free.
Solution: ask someone to spoil things for you or look them up online at websites that list plot details…? You can find spoilers without them being part of wider conversation.
Problem: Spoilers are actively how I get interested enough in a show/game/movie to even bother checking it out... so any argument that isn't just a simple "Respect other people's requests" kind of falls on deaf ears with me-
One thing I hate about editing audio is I can’t listen to music and do it.
I’ll never get mad at anyone for spoiling stuff, I get why it happens. I actually invite people to spoil things almost all the time when they ask if I’m okay with spoilers for things. I just also know lots of people who haaate spoilers so I can’t help but empathize.
That...is a hilarious description of Yami Yugi, thank you Dungeon Dice Monsters.
Yes, everyone knows Vader is Luke's father, everyone knows the Planet of the Apes is Earth, but I truly believe that it's not a big ask to consider story details that aren't *enormous obvious cultural keystones* to be potentially spoilery.
Okay, but like, I knew that Rosebud was the sled several years before I knew about Citizen Kane, because I read a Peanuts comic that came out decades before I was even born. Shockingly, Citizen Kane was still good when I watched it, There has to be a point at which spoilers stop mattering, right?
I'd probably do a lot less screaming into the ether if empathy really was a requirement
But Martin, that'd require empathy
The concept of spoilers exists because of other people. If your attitude is "well it isn't a spoiler because this is a reboot of a thing that's been told already" please consider that people younger than you exist and the thing you already saw is entirely new to them. It's not about what YOU know.
