May we redouble our efforts to realize the world envisioned by the prophet Isaiah so long ago, when “the work of righteousness shall be peace, and the effect of righteousness, calm and confidence forever.”

We know this will increase fear and anxiety for our Jewish community and beyond. We are committed to realizing a world where all are safe to walk down the streets of our neighborhoods without fear of being targeted with violence.

This is a devastating, inexcusable act of violence which in no way contributes to Palestinian freedom.

Every life is a universe. Every murder is a desecration of the divine. We are outraged at the horrifying murder of two people outside the Capitol Jewish Museum last night. May the family and friends of Yaron and Sarah be comforted along with all those who mourn.

We are looking closely at details as they continue to emerge, but what we do know now is that no one is safer today — not any American, Jewish or otherwise, and not any Palestinian or Israeli. 5/5

And we fear how some politicians will use this crime to justify a political agenda designed to damage our fundamental freedoms and our democracy. 4/5

We know that this will only harm efforts to end the unspeakable hunger in Gaza and the unprecedented violence and fear in Palestine and Israel. 3/5

This horrific, unjustifiable act has left the families of Sarah and Yaron in mourning and has left Jewish people afraid for our safety. May their families be comforted among all those who mourn. And may our beloved Jewish community find comfort and safety today. 2/5

Our leaders must act now to end the horrors before they claim a single life more: ceasefire now, free the captives now, end the blockade now. Jewish and Palestinian safety and freedom are intertwined. Every life is a universe.

They are already cynically exploiting Jewish fear and heartbreak to massacre Palestinians, rip families apart, and seize dictatorial power, which violates human rights and makes no one safer – not Jews, not anyone.

Let us be clear: not only is political vigilante violence reprehensible, it risks emboldening Trump, Netanyahu, and other right wing demagogues seeking new pretexts for further repressing the movement for Palestinian human rights.

Holding fast to our humanity means resisting the dehumanization of anyone, whether Israeli, Palestinian, or a member of any other community.
