More drought - even when there's rain - latest analysis from @wasitusie.bsky.social @icarus-maynooth.bsky.social warns of difficult summers to come www.irishtimes.com/environment/...

Irish summers likely to feature ‘extreme evaporation’ due to climate change, say scientists

Even in wetter summers, drought set to be a perennial problem

Warming global temperatures are increasing evaporation of moisture from soil and vegetation during the summer. This has impacts for gardening, agriculture and fire risk. Read more about it in our latest study wasitus.ie/events/warmi...

Check out WWAs new study concerning how sea surface temperatures are rising around Europe. It was a great experience for WASITUS scientists to help lead this study. We must see a global push to reduce fossil fuel emissions if we want to protect our seas. Study: spiral.imperial.ac.uk/entities/pub...

A succession of heatwaves and very dry conditions - both driven by human-induced climate change, fueld the severe wildfires in Spain and France - new @wwattribution.bsky.social study www.worldweatherattribution.org/climate-chan...

Fossil Fuels Are Heating America’s 250th Birthday As America gears up to celebrate the anniversary of its independence, @wwattribution.bsky.social finds that the heat impacting the east of the country, as well as parts of Canada, would have been 'virtually impossible' without climate change🧵

This European heatwave is more than a few nice days in Ireland. It is a reminder that the world is experiencing more extreme and deadly weather because humans continue to rely on fossil fuels. We were grateful to be able to co-author this new report with very stark results

Europe's worst heatwave so far, in terms of heat stress measures and temperatures - brought to you by fossil fuels. New @wwattribution.bsky.social study showing how such deadly heat became possible in only a few decades. www.worldweatherattribution.org/fossil-fuel-...

The world has warmed by around 1.4C since 1850. It took 148 years for the first half of that warming to occur, and just 27 years for the second half!

ICARUS researcher Dr Claire Bergin @clairebergin.bsky.social appeared on RTÉ Prime Time last night, discussing her work with @wasitusie.bsky.social and how record-breaking May temperatures are linked to human-caused climate change. Claire's segment begins at 29:14. www.rte.ie/player/serie...

Our newest attribution study shows that the record breaking temperatures experienced on 26th of May 2026 would not have been possible without the presence of human-caused climate change. Read in more detail now at: wasitus.ie/events/recor...

Our post doctoral researcher Dr Claire Bergin will be on RTÉ's Prime Time programme tonight starting at 21:35 speaking about our latest study involving the record breaking temperatures last week!

Our first retrospective study on SUMMER 2018 has been released (check the link below!). Key findings: high temperatures experienced during June and July have become warmer and more frequent due to anthropogenic climate change, however, the climate change influence on low precipitation is less clear.

Very interesting new study by WWA, co-authored by our postdoc. It shows how climate change is increasing pre-monsoon heat in India and Pakistan. www.worldweatherattribution.org/climate-chan...

NEW: Players and fans face increased heat danger at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, since USA '94. Our results show that from Miami to Kansas City, climate change is increasing the risk of playing the World Cup in much of the northern hemisphere during summer. (1/2)

We were glad to be able to contribute to this interesting rapid study on the Mega March heat hitting the US west this week

World Weather Attribution@wwattribution.bsky.social · 7mo ago

RAPID ANALYSIS: It would be ‘virtually impossible’ for the record-breaking March heat currently scorching the U.S. West to occur without climate change. We are seeing summer-like temperatures arrive exceptionally early from the Pacific to the Rockies this week. 🧵1/4

We’re excited to announce that @frediotto.bsky.social has been awarded Germany’s highest honour for her groundbreaking work on climate science and extreme weather. The award recognises her pivotal role in revolutionising attribution science: connecting extreme weather events to climate change.

NEW STUDY: Winter downpours are getting heavier in parts of Spain, Portugal and Morocco as the region recovers from a month of relentless storms. Between mid-January and mid-February nine named storms brought torrential rain hurricane force winds causing major damage and disruption. 1/5

Our Postdoc, Dr Claire Bergin, presented our recent work to the Irish Met Society on Thursday. If you want to take a look at the full presentation follow the link below #ClimateScience #ClimateChange #ExtremeEventAttribution www.youtube.com/watch?reload...

NEW STUDY: Climate change is fueling deadly fires that threaten some of the world’s oldest living things: the ancient Alerce trees of Patagonia, which can live for over 3,000 years. Our analysis shows that human-induced warming is making weather conditions more conducive to fire. 1/5

Storm Chandra floods made three times more likely by climate change

Analysis shows rainfall preceding storm left areas ‘primed’ for flooding

🚨 NEW STUDY: As Australia prepares for another heatwave, our latest study found the early January heatwave which hit SE Australia was made 5x more likely due to climate change. What was once a relatively rare 1-in-25-year event is now expected about every 5 years. 🧵 1/6
