Just got my pre-ordered copy of @amalsingh.bsky.social's Slow Burn. If you have even a tangential interest in Bollywood, this one is for you. One of the best Indian SF writers writing in an underexplored setting. Good use of your time IMO

Calling LLMs as a DDoS attack on human-supported infrastructure gave me a new wrinkle in my brain. What would be peer review's Cloudflare or reCAPTCHA? What about magazine submissions?
2. LLMs are also useful tools for DDOS attacks on our scientific publishing infrastructure. Paired them with broken incentive systems that count papers as products, and we have a perfect storm of slop targeted at journals, conferences, etc. >>
No one, ever, in all of history, has believed everything written in a religious text or performed all of the actions dictated therein, not because people are imperfect but because that is simply not how religion works, anywhere, ever, for anyone.
What’s a thing from your area of expertise (or special interest) that you think it would behoove everyone else to know?
ime nonviolent communication can solve a lot of relationship problems. but, um. not all of them. at least, not problems that ride in with the storm and settle into the whites of your girlfriend's eyes ...anyway, please enjoy Kaitlin's and my cowritten sapphic horror story, it's free to read!

my favorite story i’ve written (“revolutions, as told by a humble rice farmer”) is out in @podcastle.org! 🥹😭 referencing tang dynasty poetry it asks “what if we focused on this RANDOM RICE FARMER instead of the empire??” it’s a deconstruction of nationalism & v queer podcastle.org/2026/08/11/p...

Is true. I have a brick-shaped hole in my bookshelf where I kept Dune before it mysteriously disappeared. SpooOoOoOOOOooOky
EXCUSE ME?
WorldCon schedules are up! Come listen to me talk about being queer and fighting (in fiction) (but also IRL)
My knee doesn't hurt but squeaks like a cheese curd when I press the tendon-y bit. That's good, right? Means it's fresh?

I've aged so far out of receiving lolla ads that I only know it's here when I see hordes of dressed-up youthses on my morning commute. Like seeing a demoiselle crane and knowing winter is here

Without saying your age what is your favorite movie from the year you turned 18?
There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.
My short story "New Game Plus" will be in @adventitiouswords.bsky.social soon! Keep an eye out if you like video games, wobbly fourth walls, or knowing why you can't play cards in the jungle
Waiting for the contract to announce it, but just received an acceptance from an exciting market!
One of the best books I've read in recent years, even if turning the page takes forever seconds of clicking and walking

Reading The Unaccountability Machine, by Dan Davies, after hearing about it from @maxgladstone.bsky.social and @r-emrys.bsky.social. Currently a fifth of the way through and it's the same kind of unputdownable as Seeing Like A State*
