and about having actually meaningful demands, there are students in Tamil Nadu who have begun an indefinite hunger strike, demanding that NEET be fully abolished. this movement started in TN and it looks like it'll be TN who leads the real protest. one minister resigning has done nothing.

"These protests mattered because they revealed both the fragility of Modi’s political aura and the continued possibility of democratic pressure in India. The state can absorb the message and adjust—or it can harden, punish and deepen the distrust that the protests exposed." India’s Political Atmosphere Has Changed

If Modi responds to the Cockroach protesters with further repression, it could backfire.

I have been lucky to read a few issues and books by Stanchion by @fbereaud.bsky.social, Kristen Zory King and @jmgatford.bsky.social. I have received warm rejections that helped in their own way. Thanks for all that you did and will continue to do. @stanchion.bsky.social will remain much loved.

I am going through Bram Stoker’s earliest notes on DRACULA today - they include a list of the powers and features of the Count (then named “Wampyr” before Stoker stumbled on “Dracula”), many of which are never elucidated in the book…

• panters cannot pant hım; looks like someone else (38b)
• insensitive to music (38b)
• despises death and the dead (38b)
. is affected only by relics that are older than he is (38b)
• can create evil thoughts in others, banish good ones, and destroy will (38b)
• cannot be photographed; photographs come out black or like a skeleton corpse (4, 38b)
• can tell if bodies are dead or alive (4)
• sees man semingly dead and says "no" (4)
• has to be brought or carried over threshold. Dracula visits an asylum where he stumbles on the threshold (4, 16)
• named "Count Wampyr" (1)
• can determine and prove if people are sane (24)
green taper with blue flame in Count's house (43va)

ALL I ask is that people who reject Universal Basic Income out of hand because “People need to work” interrogate WHY they believe this instead of assuming it as a starting point.

On one hand it sucks that there's not enough desi crowd on this platform, but on the other hand, every post on threads and xitter (about state of indian politics and what the gormint is doing) is filled with replies from IT Cells or bhakts.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #OverTheRainbow, a bird looking skyward. Here is an Indian Robin. #Photography 🪶 📸📸 🌿🖌️ #ECK

a brown round bird, sitting on a stone wall - it has put it tail up to show itself taller -- and also pushed its head back to show its chest.

Now my television has AI and apparently I can't disable it. I don't know, man, if you really thought a technology was genuinely useful to people, you'd tell me it's there and let me decide if I wanted to use it, not pop it up every time I open an app and not allow me to turn it off.
