Banning journalists from Conservative conference with no explanation - anyone who thinks our democracy is weakened and under threat needs to wake up

Byline Times@bylinetimes.bsky.social · 4d ago

"Picking on Byline Times sends a message to other political journalists: Be careful. Don't be too critical. We can do the same to you." @adambienkov.bsky.social speaks to LBC's @mrjamesob.bsky.social about Byline Times' ban from Conservative Party Conference.

🧵 As front-page headlines go, this has to be one of the most misleading I've seen in a long time It's an out-and-out lie But notice the trick they use to get away with it...👀 *They're* not lying - they're just quoting someone else who is👍🏻 In this case, the leader of the opposition🙄 1/33

Everyone agree this is simply a lie? When did media stop holding MPs to account? 1. High gas prices are not a result of Labour approach to N Sea. Set internationally. No amount of gas from UK waters could make a signicant difference. Taxes etc are a small fraction, and cant explain increases 2.

Good work from @eciu.net on the double-whammy that is possibly UK lowest harvest on record followed by record El Nino. UK media so far I think more focused on El Nino impacts on UK storms - I guess the food price story will grow as impacts appear. eciu.net/media/press-... eciu.net/media/press-...

UK harvest even worse than previously thought – new data

Updated figures released by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) suggest the UK's arable harvest is now expected to be even smaller than previously forecast.

Note Conservatives guilty too (2) Huge private & fossil-fuel donations to parties - which have to stop www.carbonbrief.org/factcheck-re...

UK is far from only country where mis/dis-info is rife. In Indonesia, vulnerable to El Nino, mis-info is circulating about causes of El Nino - when the cause of amplified impacts is clear - burning fossil fuels.
