Statistical Chronometry of Meteorites. I. The Pb-Pb age of the Solar System's t=0
We use rapidly cooled achondrites to test the assumption of 26Al homogeneity in the solar nebula, by checking if there is a single value of tSS, the absolute "Pb-Pb" age of the Solar System's t=0, tha...

One thing I’m positive of is 26Al was uniformly distributed across the solar system at its birth. No heterogeneities, no injection from supernovae or late streamers. See my four 2023 works, including the PP7 book chapter. If an asteroid failed to melt, it formed too late and/or with too much ice.
1/11 #JWST has revealed something unprecedented about Neptune. For the first time we have spectra of three small inner moons (Larissa, Galatea, Proteus) and the rings. 🔭 Their composition is unique in the outer Solar System.⚛️🧪 www.caltech.edu/about/news/n... #planetsci #Astronomy #Science

Jodrell Bank is a piece of world radio #astronomy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site still leading research & training new astronomers🔭🧪⚛️ Shutting it down to save a tiny fraction of science budget is short-sighted. We can't let it become a rusting monument to discoveries never made. #SaveJodrellBank
I'm absolutely devastated for colleagues at Jodrell Bank who found out this morning that funding for the UK's e-MERLIN radio telescope array will be terminated. This is a short-sighted move, to save a tiny fraction of the overall UK science budget. #SaveJodrellBank 🔭🧪 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
The claim “RFK Jr. does not fuck chickens” is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that RFK Jr. fucks chickens.
TFW the first Viking images of the Martian sky should be red but you blue it.
1/7 On July 21, 1976, NASA released the first color image from the surface of Mars.🔭🧪⚛️ It had been taken that same day by the Viking 1 lander — the day after the successful landing on the planet. But it was not exactly the version we see today. #HistSci #Mars #SpaceHistory #space #planetsci

$100 to any reporter who asks him, "so you're saying Capitol Police should've shot dead everyone who breached the Capitol on January 6?"
Homan on people getting killed by ICE: "It comes down to one simple fact -- these people failed to comply with law enforcement ... all they had to do is comply. If they did, they'd be alive today."
Great thread but sad reminder that from self-promoting advisers to greedy oligarchs, the patriarchy always seems to get a cut. I wish for a world where credit goes where credit is due and everybody benefits.
1/8 15 July 1943 – Jocelyn Bell Burnell was born. In 1967 she discovered #pulsars.🔭 🧪⚛️ The 1974 Nobel Prize went to two men. Not to her. As of 2025 data, women are just 2.2% of Physics Nobel winners. J. B. Burnell isn't an exception. Her case is still the rule. #histsci #WomenInSTEM
Very cool revision of a solar abundance. But I’m not singing “Re, a drop of silver sun.”
🔭 Did you know that there is *silver* in the Sun? If yes: did you know we JUST found out there’s 55% more than previously thought?! +0.19 dex from ref values, which is a LOT! The culprit? (Scooby-Doo villain reveal) As always, those darn meddling 3D non-LTE effects!!! 👻 Press release & paper ⬇️

Semi-slug life - is this anything?
1/12 John Baez et al. have just published a paper linking decades-old #mathematics to a new way of thinking about quantum mechanics. 🔭🧪⚛️ The result? The Standard Model (SM) of particles seems to emerge naturally from certain mathematical structures. Here’s a simple explanation, I hope. #physics
Big E, Big E, Big E, can’t you see Sometimes your ears just hypnotize me And I just love your flashy trunk Standing next to you they all look unc (uh huh)

Elon Musk is a South African who came to the US under a fraudulently secured student visa to study at Stanford (he never enrolled). Through further fraud, he secured a green card and then was naturalized as a US citizen. His US citizenship can be revoked. He also holds a Canadian passport.
this thread about some truly cray cray stuff. come for Belarus insanity but stay for Zuck dipshittery.
More than a decade ago, a group of young, internet-connected Belarusian dissidents launched a series of increasingly high-stakes, increasingly surreal confrontations with the corrupt, authoritarian government of Alexander Lukashenka, a man who is often called "the last Soviet dictator." 1/
🔬 Your tax dollars once paid a physicist whose own colleagues told him he was wasting the university's money. In 1951, Charles Townes sat on a D.C. park bench and worked out, on the back of an envelope, how to force molecules to release coherent radiation. 🧵 1/5
1/8 #JWST found that the chemistry of the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS is strikingly different from any #comet formed in our Solar System. 🔭 Extremely high deuterium levels and unusual carbon ratios suggest a probable growth scenario dating back to 10–12 billion years.🧪⚛️ esawebb.org/news/weic2613/
I saw this referred to as the Strait of Warm Ooze. Very good.
Scientists in Atlanta were stopped from criticizing the Trump admin at a scientific conference, so let me do it here: Trump is destroying biomedical research in America, and it will take decades to get back on track. Spread the word. Stand up for science.
